Ignacio Boys: Chris Valdez

Because of location, not much is known about the Bobcats but it’s a program that’s reached the Final Four in 2A each of the last three years. Much younger this year, Ignacio has kept on winning. Their 49-29 win over Mancos Friday night improved their record to 9-3 on the season and kept them unbeaten against Colorado opponents.

Vanguard Girls: Frank Haist

KRDO: Dan Cochell

In one of the weirdest situations in Colorado prep basketball history, the boys game between Colorado Springs rivals Palmer and Doherty was suspended at halftime because of baby powder from a dance team that performed at intermission. Dan Cochell with our Colorado Springs affiliate KRDO was calling at the game and called into the Scoreboard Show to recap what happened. The game will resume on Wednesday night.

BURLINGTON – Kate Reeson (January 22nd)

MOFFAT COUNTY – Matt Ray (January 21st)

FRONT RANGE CHRISTIAN – Dominic Vigil (January 14th)

In a battle of unbeatens, Front Range scored a major win inside the 2A Mile High by beating Lutheran-Parker. The win gives the 4th ranked Falcons the inside track to the league championship.

LONGMONT – Jay Darian (January 14th)

In maybe the most impressive win of any team this season, the top ranked Trojans knocked off 2nd ranked Broomfield on their home court Friday night. The Eagles are the four-time defending state champions but Longmont picked up the important Northern league win.

RYE – Ryan Spencer (January 16th)

Back in the 2A Santa Fe Conference this year, the Thunderbolts are playing very good basketball. After a disappointing loss to top ranked Las Animas on Friday, they responded nicely on Saturday with a road win at Rocky Ford.

RIFLE – Stephanie Heald (January 12th)

FLEMING – Mindy Roelle (January 7th)

In a battle of unbeatens, Fleming scored a very important conference opening win over Pawnee on Friday. The two will square off again later this season so the North Central conference crown is still up for grabs.

MERINO – Bryan Dermer (January 7th)

The Rams are ranked third in Class 1A but they have a tough assignment with Sedgwick County in the Lower Platte league opener for both teams. The Cougars were third in 2A going in but Merino prevailed with a 50-45 decision.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Bryan Derby (January 7th)

The unbeaten and 8th ranked Demons (4A) began conference play with a 12 point win over Steamboat Springs. Next up is a difficult road trip to Moffat County. The two have dominated the Western Slope for the past decade.

LAS ANIMAS – Charles Phillips (January 7th)

In a very deep Santa Fe conference featuring at least six quality teams, Las Animas picked up an important league win over Rocky Ford in the conference opener for both teams.

KIT CARSON – SARA CRAWFORD (December 18th)

The Wildcats used a patient offense and stingy defense to beat Wiley and McClave on back-to-back nights and win the Lamar Holiday Tournament championship. It was their first tournament title in school history.

WILEY – BRIAN DUNNING (December 18th)

The Panthers bounced back from a difficult semi-final loss to Kit Carson by moving past Eads to claim third place at the Lamar Holiday tournament.

The Bears stayed unbeaten by handing Glenwood Springs their first loss of the season. Rifle took out the Demons 52-50 on Tuesday night. They next return to league play against another close rival (Coal Ridge) on Friday.
