While those three will garner most of the attention going into the tournament, several other programs look to grab their own headlines and that list includes Rocky Mountain and Lakewood.  The Lobos went through the Front Range conference without a loss and Lakewood did the same while winning the Jeffco crown.

CHAPARRAL

• Record:  26-0
• Won 50 straight matches (last loss to Grandview)
• Defending state champion
• Won Continental title with 11-0 record
• Beat Regis twice during regular season (3-2 in last matchup on October 20^th)
• Beat Grandview (3-1) in regular season
• Beat GJ Central, Greeley West, Mountain Vista & Fossil Ridge in district tournament
• Beat Eaglecrest, Pine Creek & Heritage to win regionals

FOSSIL RIDGE

• Record:  18-8
• Finished 4^th in Front Range conference (trailed Rocky Mountain, Fort Collins & Monarch)
• Lost to Regis & Chaparral in post-season play and finished 2^nd at both district and regional tournaments
• Quality wins over defending 3A state champion Valley & 4A qualifier Longmont during season

LAKEWOOD

• Beat Ralston Valley in 5 games to capture league championship
• Losses to Regis (regular season) and Arapahoe (regional tournament)

• Despite loss to Arapahoe, won regional title with 5-set win over Rocky Mountain

CHERRY CREEK

• Record:  21-5
• Finished 2^nd to Grandview in Centennial
• Lost to Grandview (3-2) in conference play
• Also lost to Grandview (3-1) in regionals
• Loss to Grandview in regionals ended 8 match winning streak
• Won district title w/wins over Dakota Ridge, Rampart, Castle View & Pine Creek
• Other losses to Regis, Doherty & Lakewood

REGIS

• Finished 2^nd in Continental (lost to Chaparral)
• Both losses to Chaparral – lost to them 3-1 at Regis tournament and then 3-2 in league play
• 2^nd loss came in regular season finale – won 7 straight in post-season since and dropped only one set in that stretch

ROCKY MOUNTAIN

• Front Range league champions (11-0)
• Losses to Durango (Cherry Creek Tournament) and Lakewood (regional tournament)
• 3-0 vs teams in state tournaments  w/wins over Classical Academy, Eaglecrest & Fossil Ridge
• Beat Pomona, Legacy, Ralston Valley & Eaglecrest to win districts
• Finished 2^nd at regionals by beating Ponderosa & Arapahoe before 5 set loss to Lakewood

GRANDVIEW

EAGLECREST

• Record:  17-9
• Finished 5^th in Centennial (3-4)
• League losses to Grandview, Cherry Creek, Arapahoe & Cherokee Trail
• Lost to Rocky Mountain in district tournament but finished 2^nd
• Lost to Chaparral in regional tournament but finished 2^nd
• Best regular season wins against University and Colorado Springs Christian (both in 3A state field)

CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN

• Record:  26-0 (Won 44 straight overall)
• Three-time defending state champion
• Lost 3 sets in first two matches and then only 3 more the rest of the season
• Have 9 wins over 5A opponents including state qualifier Fossil Ridge
• Handed Coronado their first loss of the season in CS Metro league championship match
• Swept Canon City, Pueblo County & Mesa Ridge to win district title
• Beat Niwot, Roosevelt & Palisade to capture regional crown

ROOSEVELT

• Record:  19-7
• Tied for 2^nd in Tri Valley with Sterling (Windsor won championship)
• Lost twice to Windsor
• Suffered losses to Arapahoe, Colorado Springs Christian & Sterling in regular season
• Lost to Mullen in 5 games but still finished 2^nd at district tournament
• Pushed Cheyenne Mountain to 4 games but finished 2^nd at regionals

WINDSOR

• Record:  25-1
• Tri Valley conference champions (14-0)
• Only loss to defending 3A state champion Valley (2-0)
• Won 22 straight matches
• Beat Woodland Park, Kennedy and Green Mountain twice to win districts
• Topped Glenwood Springs, Silver Creek and Mullen to capture regional title

SILVER CREEK

• Record:  20-6
• Finished 2^nd behind Longmont in Northern conference
• Ended up 2^nd in district tournament with lone loss to Valor Christian
• Finished 2^nd at regional tournament with a four set loss to Windsor
• Won 7 straight matches to close the regular season

LONGMONT

• Record:  22-4
• Northern Conference champions (12-2)
• Lost to Silver Creek & Thompson Valley in league play
• Other losses to 5A qualifier Fossil Ridge and ThunderRidge
• Unbeaten in both district and regional tournaments (7-0 in post-season)
• Quality win over Coronado in regional tournament (3-1)
• Won 9 straight matches since 5 set loss to Silver Creek

CORONADO

• Record:  24-2
• Opened season 18-0 before loss to Cheyenne Mountain in CS Metro championship match
• Second loss came against Longmont (3-1) in last week’s regional tournament (finished 2^nd)
• Won districts by beating Air Academy, Palmer Ridge and Lewis Palmer (twice)
• One of three league teams in state tournament (Cheyenne Mountain & Lewis Palmer)
• Beaten Lewis Palmer three times this season (state qualifier)

DURANGO

• Record:  22-4
• Went 10-0 in Southwestern League and won title by 4 games over Fruita Monument
• Won 17 straight matches
• Last loss to Doherty on September 17^th (2-0) at Cherry Creek Tournament
• Best win over Rocky Mountain (5A Qualifier) at the very same tournament
• Three wins over New Mexico opponents
• Beat Pueblo East, Pueblo Centennial, Eagle Valley & Montrose to win district tourney
• Beat Mesa Ridge, Lewis Palmer and Valor Christian for regional title

LEWIS PALMER

• Record:  14-12
• Opened the season at 4-7 but still finished third in CS Metro post-season tournament
• Won only 5 of last 9 matches
• Rallied from two sets down to beat Valor Christian 3-2 in key regional tournament match
• Another five set win over Mesa Ridge at regionals clinched berth at state tournament
• 0-6 against teams in the state tournament  (0-3 vs Coronado, 0-2 vs Cheyenne Mountain and lost to Bayfield & Durango

Fleming is seeking to play in their fifth straight final.  They’re unbeaten against 1A foes this year and have won 23 straight matches.  Simla and Wiley are two of the main challengers to break through against the two favorites.  The Cubs of course would like another chance at beating Otis while Wiley is 24-1 overall with a lone loss to 2A qualifier Swink.  The Panthers have won 20 in a row.  Vail Christian and Norwood are two teams to watch from the Western Slope.  They’ve already played three times this year and would like to make it four in the state finals.

FLEMING WILDCATS

• Record:  25-2
• Only losses to 3A St Mary’s & 4A D’Evelyn at Machebeuf Tournament
• Won 23 straight matches
• Won District and regional title and dropped only 2 sets in those two tournaments

PAWNEE COYOTES

• Record:  18-10
• Finished 2^nd in district and had to win tiebreakers over both Merino and Weldon Valley to advance
• 5 losses to Fleming
• 3 losses to Merino
• 2 losses to Weldon Valley

WILEY PANTHERS

• Record:  24-1
• Lost to Swink in match 5 of the season
• Won 20 straight matches
• Regional champion
• Beaten Springfield 4 times including a five set match in Regionals
• Quality wins over Las Animas, McClave (twice), Kit Carson (twice) & Eads (twice)

SPRINGFIELD LONGHORNS

• Record:  21-4
• All 4 losses to Wiley – first three were sweeps but the fourth match in regionals went five games
• Beat McClave twice during regular season
• Also topped Liberal KS (5A school in that state)
• Finished 2^nd at regionals because of loss to Wiley

SIMLA CUBS

• Record:  24-2
• Only losses to Otis & Akron (both state tournament teams)
• Both losses in three game sweeps
• Best win came against Hi Plains in regionals last week
• Finished 2^nd in regionals because of loss to Otis

VAIL CHRISTIAN SAINTS

• Record:  23-3
• Opened season 9-0 before loss to Lutheran (2A Qualifier)
• Also lost to 2A Hayden
• Went 2-1 against Norwood (state qualifier)
• Finished 2^nd at Districts (lost to Norwood in finals)
• Won Regional title (beat Norwood to clinch spot)

NORWOOD MAVERICKS

• Record:  22-4
• 2 losses to Vail Christian (beat them to win district title)
• Split two matches with Telluride (2A Qualifier)
• Split two matches with Mancos (2A Qualifier)
• Won district title
• Finished 2^nd in regionals
• Won 6 of last 7 matches

OTIS BULLDOGS

• Record:  26-0
• Dropped only 2 sets all season
• Forced to 4 games against Akron in both meetings
• Swept every 1A opponent this year
• Quality wins over Hi Plains (3 times), Liberty, Merino, Resurrection Christian
• Won District title
• Won Regional title by sweeping Simla in decisive match

Standing in the way of Lutheran are several teams including Akron, Byers, Swink, Sanford and Dayspring Christian.  Byers is 25-1 overall with their lone loss coming to Lutheran in the regional finals last week.  Akron is unbeaten against 2A team and Swink comes from the same district as Fowler and also has a great volleyball tradition.  Sanford and Dayspring Christian are looking to make their mark in the state tournament as are both Mancos and Telluride who try to earn respect for the Western Slope.

AKRON RAMS

• Record:  23-3
• Won 14 straight matches
• Won District and Regional crowns
• Beat Dayspring Christian (3-1), Burlington (3-0) & Resurrection Christian (3-0) in regionals
• 2 losses to 1A top ranked Otis (only team to force Otis past 3 games)
• 3^rd loss to Weldon Valley (1A Top 5 most of the season)

TELLURIDE MINERS

• Record:  22-3
• Opened the season with 12 straight wins
• Suffered first loss to Norwood (3-1) / split with Mavericks this year (1A qualifier)
• Finished 2^nd in District & Regional tournaments / lost to Mancos in both cases
• Beat Mancos twice during regular season

BYERS BULLDOGS

• Record:  25-1
• Was 25-0 before losing to Lutheran (3-0) in regional finals
• Before loss to Lutheran, had dropped only 12 sets all season
• Won district title
• Finished second at regionals because of loss to Lutheran
• Quality wins over Calhan (3 times), Burlington and Fountain Valley (twice)

SANFORD INDIANS

• Record:  23-3
• Won District Title
• Finished 2^nd at Regionals because of loss to Swink (2-0)
• Had won 9 straight matches before loss to Swink
• Won District title
• Other losses to Liberty (1A) and La Veta

SWINK LIONS

• Record:  22-4
• 3 losses to Fowler
• Other loss to Rye (won 2 of 3 vs Thunderbolts overall)
• Won district title despite loss to Fowler
• Won regional crown by sweeping Sangre De Cristo, Las Animas & Sanford
• Won 8 of last 9 matches

MANCOS BLUEJAYS

• Record:  20-4
• Won 11 straight matches including two wins over Telluride / lost twice to them in regular season
• Split 2 matches with Norwood (1A Qualifier)
• 4^th loss to 3A Bayfield (unbeaten and in 3A tournament)
• Won District Title
• Won Regional crown by sweeping Rangely, Telluride & Meeker

LUTHERAN LIONS

• Record:  20-4
• Both Lutheran & Lutheran-Parker qualified for state last year – this season they’re a combined program
• Finished 3^rd in the 3A Metro League (trailed only 3A qualifiers Colorado Academy & Holy Family)
• Losses to Eaton, Colorado Academy (twice) and Holy Family
• Won 8 straight matches including 3 game sweep of unbeaten Byers to win regional tournament
• Several wins over larger schools such as Grand Junction, Grand Junction Central, Glenwood Springs, University, Faith Christian & Jefferson Academy

DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN EAGLES

• Record:  21-3
• Opened the season 10-0 before 5 set loss to Resurrection Christian
• Split 4 matches with Resurrection Christian
• Lost to Resurrection Christian to finish second at Districts
• Beat Resurrection Christian & Burlington, but lost to Akron to finish second at Regionals
• Pushed past 3 games only three times in first 20 matches – last four matches have all gone four or five games

Unbeatens Colorado Academy and Bayfield are favored going in but they face strong challenges from teams such as defending state champion Valley, Eaton, Holy Family, Classical Academy and Colorado Springs Christian which has won six of the seven titles.

• Metro league champions / wins over Holy Family, Lutheran, Faith Christian & Jefferson Academy
• Forced to play more than three games only 4 times all season
• Won regional titles by beating Buena Vista (3-0, St Mary’s (3-1) & Classical Academy (3-0)
• Won district title with wins over University, Bennett & Platte Valley (all 3-0 sweeps)

UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS

• Record:  14-11
• Finished 2^nd at Regionals / beat Gunnison (3-2) & Mead (3-0) – lost to Bayfield (3-0)
• Finished 2^nd at Districts / lost to CO Academy (3-0) – beat Platte Valley (3-2) & Bennett (3-0)

We’ll also provide a list of state tournament qualifiers and update as the tournaments progress.  Colorado Preps will also run through all volleyball results during our Built Ford Tough Scoreboard Show from 9:30-11:00pm tonight on the Colorado Preps Radio Network.

Looking ahead to next week, Colorado Preps will provide live streaming of all state volleyball matches for classes 3A, 2A and 1A.  Those matches can be seen on www.chsaa.tv.  The entire 5A and 4A tournaments will also be available on the site throughout the two day event.

Four teams will be placed in each regional tournament and the schedule will feature round-robin play between all the squads.  The top two finishers from each regional tournament advance to the state meet in Denver on November 11^th and 12^th.
