FOOTBALL: WEEK ONE RECAP (5A and 4A)

The first Football Friday of the season always promises intrigue, and the 2015 version didn’t disappoint. It doesn’t get much bigger than the big-school classification’s top-ranked team enduring defeat. Here’s a look:

GIRLS BASKETBALL: 1A STATE TOURNAMENT CAPSULES

The top four seeds in 1A (Norwood, Kit Carson, Sangre de Cristo and Idalia) have a combined four losses between them. Norwood, the top seed in the field, is looking for its second straight title.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: CLASS 1A REGIONAL REPORT

Eight of the teams in the preseason top-10 are still alive this weekend. Another eight teams in the regional field opened the season receiving votes, and four of the teams that will see action this weekend were completely overlooked by voters before the season began.

BOYS BASKETBALL: CLASS 1A REGIONAL PREVIEW

After the district tournaments were played out last weekend, the current play-off field stands at 22. By the end of the day on Saturday, that number will be trimmed to eight. Ten teams enter the regional round needing just a single victory to punch their ticket to the state tournament.

Five districts have already completed their quarterfinal round and by late Saturday night, the 1A field will be pared down to 22 teams who will compete in next weekend's regional round. From that group, eight will emerge and head to Loveland, looking for the ultimate prize.
