BOYS BASKETBALL: Schedule/Results 1-12-13

Saturday, January 12, 2013 - 9:40am

A huge matchup in Class 2A between top ranked Limon and #5 Peyton highlights the Saturday schedule.  The long-time rivals face off in a game that does not affect league or district standings but will have a nice impact on next week’s top ten rankings.  Limon is unbeaten on the season and picked up an easy win over Genoa Hugo last night.  Peyton has not lost since a difficult one point setback to 2nd ranked Lutheran in the opening week of the season.

Two other top ten battles can be found on the Saturday schedule.  In Class 1A, 8th ranked Pawnee and 10th ranked Otis get together for a non-league tussle in Weld County.  Pawnee was scheduled to face 6th ranked Fleming last night but that game was snowed out so tonight’s game will be their first taste of game action since the holiday break.  In Class 4A, 10th ranked Denver South heads to 8th ranked Longmont.  South suffered a loss to 3rd ranked Pueblo East earlier in the week and needs a road win to avoid a two game losing skid.  Longmont stayed unbeaten with a league win over Niwot on Friday.

Below is a list of the top games in each division but we’ll post finals from all games here throughout the day.  Final scores can be reported by text to 970.380.7737 or 970.380.7738 or by email to kevin@coloradopreps.com.

Pantherfan, how'd that Peyton Limon game go? Looked like a barn-burner on the scoreboard.

I was at the game and it was the best contest I've witnessed this year.  Peyton was red-hot out of the game and actually built a 31-13 lead midway through the second quarter.  Ethan Abello had 24 first half points and finished with 36 for the game.  Limon stepped up the man-to-man pressure late in the first half and trimmed the lead to a dozen by intermission (38-26).  The third quarter, they stepped up it even more and Gavin Liggett also became more aggressive on the offensive end.  His three point shooting and a dunk off a steal by Dohe sparked the rally even more.  Peyton seemed to have survived the rally and kept the lead until about two minutes left.  They had a four point lead with 25 seconds left but Abello hit a big three trimming it to one but the Badgers held on.  It was a great game and well played by both teams!
