BOYS BASKETBALL: Schedule/Results 2-14-13

Thursday, February 14, 2013 - 7:19am

Because of regional wrestling the Thursday night slate this week is a bit busier than normal and there are several nice matchups on the agenda.  In Class 2A, the last two defending state champions collide as #5 Lutheran battles Denver Christian.  The teams are in different conferences but the outcome will help determine district tournament seedings.  They’re in the same bracket as top ranked Limon creating one of the deeper districts in Class 2A.

Elsewhere there are two games of note inside the Lower Platte where Caliche entertains Akron and Haxtun battles Holyoke.  All three are in the top five of the conference standings and are separated by just one game.  Yuma is also in the championship mix as the Indians meet in-county rival Wray.  In Class 1A, Denver Jewish Day looks to clinch the 5280 crown with a win at Community Christian.

Two top ten teams in Class 4A are in action as well.  D’Evelyn can officially clinch the Jeffco crown by beating Green Mountain on the road.  The Jags lead Evergreen and Golden by three games and have already clinched a tie for the title.  The two second place teams also square off and they enter the battle with identical league marks (8-3) and overall records (13-7).  4th ranked Valor Christian closes their regular season with an interesting matchup against 5A Liberty.  The game will impact post-season seeds in the largest two divisions.  Valor is shooting for a top four seed in 4A while Liberty is climbing the ladder in the big school ranks after scoring a nice win over Lincoln last week.  They’re currently second in the 5A CS Metro and also have an important game at Sand Creek on Saturday.

Outside the rankings in 4A, Frederick challenges Roosevelt in the Tri Valley.  The Riders are tied with Windsor atop the standings but need some help to claim the title since they’ve suffered two losses to the Wizards.  Frederick is in third place just one game back and remains in the championship discussion.

Below is the schedule of top games across the state in each division.  Final scores can be reported to Colorado Preps by text at 970.380.7737 or by email to kevin@coloradopreps.com.  If your school also has a twitter feed, please let us know the hashtag so we can follow for game updates.

Clarkson's comments are from the recorded playback on this page. Not sure if "Blackman" was offended or making note of the injured starters from Caliche. Definitely, Gandee and Debus were missed and I hope they can fully recover before their district tourney. It is always misfortune to lose any players. I don't feel Greg Clarkson "dogged" Caliche. He simply referenced Akron' boys game strategies. We are very aware that this game might have had a much different score if Caliche had been completely healthy. And Mr. Mcgowdog, these comments are in the right place as Greg Clarkson coaches the boys in Akron, not the girls.
