BOYS BASKETBALL: Schedule/Results 2-15-13

Friday, February 15, 2013 - 7:27am

Four top ten battles, all with league title implications, headline the Friday night schedule across the state.  We’ll run through all the scores and tell you what results mean to the league picture and playoff chase throughout the Built Ford Tough Scoreboard Show on the Colorado Preps Radio Network.  It airs each Friday from 9-11pm.

In Class 5A, 7th ranked Eaglecrest faces 9th ranked Cherokee Trail with the winner taking over sole possession of first place in the Centennial.  Both lead Grandview by one game entering the final three games of the league slate.  Over in the Continental, 4th ranked Regis and 5th ranked ThunderRidge have both suffered league losses to #2 Mountain Vista so their winner should settle for 2nd in the standings.

In the 4A ranks, 2nd ranked Sand Creek is coming off their first loss of the season in a 51-50 loss to Discovery Canyon but they must recover quickly against a talented and 7th ranked Cheyenne Mountain club tonight.  The Scorpions need to win to stay tied with 3rd ranked Lewis Palmer in the Pikes Peak lead.  The two leaders are set to battle next Tuesday.

The fourth top ten clash occurs in Class 1A between 5th ranked Cheyenne Wells and 6th ranked Hi Plains.  Results of the non-league game may only come into play if both teams reach the state tournament but each would like to score a win to give them momentum heading into the final week.  Cheyenne Wells collected a conference title clinching win at McClave last Friday while Hi Plains is coming off a tough home loss to top ranked Fleming.

Elsewhere, there’s an important 2A battle in the Southern Peaks between #4 Sanford and Sierra Grande.  They sit one-two in the standings and the winner should eventually nab the championship.  Sanford won the first battle by 30 points but the rematch is expected to be much closer.  In the 3A division, James Irwin and Dolores Huerta Prep battle head-to-head in what’s been an unpredictable Tri Peaks East race.  James Irwin has a one game lead on the Scorpions and La Junta entering the final weekend.  James Irwin clinches at least a tie for the crown with a win while Dolores Huerta can create a three way tie for the top spot if they avenge an earlier 18 point loss.

Final scores can be reported to Colorado Preps by text to 970.380.7737 or by email to kevin@coloradopreps.com.  You may call us toll free at 866.534.6257.  If your school has a twitter feed that provides final scores and game updates, please provide us to the hashtag so we can follow there as well.

Kevin:
The Sanford / Sierra Grande game was a good one until the second half when Sanford took over and Help the panthers to 10 second half points.... Also I thought I'm mention that sanford is now 13-3... they played and beat South Park last Saturday and that game was never posted on CO Preps. You guys still have them at 11-3.. now 12-3... and they are officially 13-3.. Thanks!

I have to give it to the Sanford Boys, they have a Very dangerous team. I am from Pagosa Springs and was at the our game when we played against Sanford, and they are an excellent team. I am not sure there are any teams in 2A that are going to be able to take them down from what I have seen the few times I have watched them. They took us to overtime and almost got the game to a second overtime. I was proud of our boys winning that game and showing we have a great team up here! I was dissapointed when our game with Centuari got rescheduled. Our district has gotten thick this last few weeks with Alamosa losing last week at Centuari and i think it is going to be a very exciting finish! Also our girls are having a great year!

Agree with you on Sanford. An incredibly talented and well coached team. With no seniors they have a bright unlimited future. Once you get to this point of the year there are no guarantees but I think at the very least they will be a tough out.

Pirate: I saw the Sanford/Sierra Grande game and I thought the panthers went really cold late Sanford D had something to do with it but they got good looks and just could not make em. There are some really good teams in 2A that can play. Limon Lutheran Peyton Yuma just to name a few, its going to be a fun post season! Good luck to Pagosa, go get em!
