BOYS BASKETBALL: Schedule/Results 2-26-13

Sunday, February 24, 2013 - 2:20am

Of the 17 districts that conduct tournament games today or tonight, 15 of them are involved in quarterfinal action as teams fight for a semifinal berth.  Those games are extremely important as in many cases those winners also advance to the next round of playoffs in the following week.  The pigtail games meantime are elimination contests as the losers see an end to their season.

Below is the entire list of games for the day and Colorado Preps will update scores here as they come in.  We’ll also update brackets in the corresponding district tournament story for each class.  Results can be shipped to Colorado Preps by text to 970.380.7737 or by email to kevin@coloradopreps.com.  Scores can also be reported by toll free phone call at 866.534.6257.

Can anyone tell me how the Regionals is set up for 1A, like when Denver Jewish qualifies, (can't see them not qualifying) I heard they are not allowed to play on Friday's? Is this true? How would this change how games are set up?

Regionals will be seeded by a committee and they are supposed to be true seeded 1-9.  You are correct about Denver Jewish Day as they won't be able to play on Friday so the games will be shifted around that day if they qualify as expected.  Athletic directors within the region were already making plans for that prospect a few weeks ago.  Not sure what happens at the state tournament because those games are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday so if Denver Jewish Day qualifies, then changes will be made as well.  Just not sure how and when.

I think Denver Jewish Day can't play from sun down on Friday to sun down on Saturday. Last year District 8 played District 1 for Regionals and Denver Jewish Day boys played Plateau Valley Boys on Friday at noon, while the rest of the games were on Saturday starting at noon.

This is just a guess, but I think that the three districts going into a region meet to decide the location of regionals. In this case I would think they would set the times as well so that the games are not played on days when they cannot play.

Sterling is the regional site for Class 1A in the Northeast.  That's already been determined.

Thank you so much for the reply Kevin!!! Is the location NJC or Sterling High School? Practically the state tournament will be in Sterling, that is one heck of a Regionals for 1A basketball

Think NJC - 2A may also be there as well....but that's not locked in yet....

I must say that District 4 has it made, apart from being one of the deepest, difficult districts to advance from. Being able to use NJC's facility year after year while other teams are just playing at high schools is a great privilege. Then to be able to return to the same gym the following week for regionals is another advantage, much better than going down to Limon and trying to fit everyone in that gym.

I think they will actually rotate between the two facilities - one year the bracket is played up north and then the next down south.  Of course that depends on if 1A keeps the same format for the next few years...

Many folks headed out to games tonight....text us a final score at 970.380.7737 or email us at kevin@coloradopreps.  Want to track scores as quickly as possible so we can keep brackets updated!
