BOYS BASKETBALL: Seeding Thoughts (2A, 1A)
Tournament brackets for Classes 1A and 2A are set to be released this weekend as the field has almost been whittled down to eight teams in each division. There is one game to be played on Sunday in Class 2A as the region seven crown will be decided as Heritage Christian (22-1) battles Sierra Grande (17-5) for the final berth in the Great Eight.
Because of the delay, we understand that CHSAA has indicated the 2A pairings won’t be released until Monday and because of the teams involved, laying out potential seeding before the result is known will be a difficult task. Heritage Christian could be in the discussion for the number one overall seed if they get by the Panthers. Sierra Grande is likely saddled with the eighth seed even if they spring the upset. Their record with a win would be 18-5 but they would likely be placed behind fellow five loss teams Denver Christian and Resurrection Christian.
Despite a late season loss to Denver Christian, Limon could be in line for the number one overall seed but Peyton, Sanford and as mentioned Heritage Christian could be in discussion. Peyton is playing very good basketball down the stretch but the Panthers lost to Limon by one point early in the season and the head-to-head loss could cost them in the seeding room. Denver Christian is also playing well down the stretch and has two wins over Lutheran and the Crusaders are the only team to beat Limon this year. Yuma (21-1) and Resurrection Christian (19-5) could also be in line for a top four seed but sorting out the bracket will be a very difficult chore.
In Class 1A, we think the bracket could be very easy to lay out. Shining Mountain will likely draw the top seed with McClave set at number two. Fleming would get the nod in our mind for the third seed with Caliche rounding out the top four. Vail Christian, which finished second in the 2A Western Slope could draw the fifth seed and a date with the four-time defending state champions (Caliche) in round one. That would leave Holly as the sixth seed and then Norwood number seven and Granada eighth.
Classes 3A, 4A and 5A play their original bracket out to the state championship game so their brackets will not be reseeded this weekend. Their matchups are set as below.

I think you are close in the 1A bracket. Granada could move up to 6 being a district champ and knocking off McClave in the last 10 days could help their cause. This time of year you have to be aware of Caliche. I'm sure Shining Mountain is hoping for them to be a 3, 6 or 7 seed.
Good luck with the 2a bracket. Their are a few teams that could be number1 or number 2 wow good luck figuring this one out.
Denver Christian split the 2 games with Lutheran. Lost regular season game, but won District playoff game
Granada wont move ahead of Holly because Holly has a better record than Granada and during the season Holly beat Granada 2 out 3 times they played.
That same logic was not applied during the regional round so I'm curious as to why you think CHSAA would use it now during the state round. All the more reason for CHSAA to move to a 32 team bracket.
1. Shining Mtn
2. McClave
3. Fleming
4. Caliche
5. Vail
6. Granada/Holly
7. Norwood
8. Granada/Holly
Caliche/Vail Christian could flip but at that juncture it would really only be for what color of uniform they wear and what bench they sit on. CHSAA has sure done some crazier things when it comes to the brackets in the past so we shall see.
We all blame CHSAA for the problems...but it is actually a committee made of of athletic directors and coaches and administrators from each respective division.. 2A folks for 2A seedlings, 4A for 4A etc. some of these decisions are financial..
CHSAA, being comprised of its member schools, would be an appropriate term to describe that committee then.

I would flip McClave and Fleming since Fleming won their District 4 Championship by beating 4 time State Champion Caliche (after also beating them earlier at their house). I'll admit my bias towards NE teams since those are the ones I've seen. However, McClave did not put it together to win their District. Gotta win the games that count. However, Fleming, whether a 2 or a 3 gets a good seed with yours or Kevin's list, so it's all good. I do hope Fleming and Caliche are on different sides of the bracket.
