GIRLS BASKETBALL: Playoff Schedule (All Classes)

Sunday, March 3, 2013 - 3:18pm

Another week of playoff basketball is on tap this week as teams continue their drive to a state championship.  Class 5A will conduct their Sweet Sixteen round on Tuesday with winners advancing to the Great Eight at the Denver Coliseum on Thursday.  The Coliseum will also host the Great Eight in Class 4A on Saturday.  State tournament play in Class 3A opens this Friday with winners turning around for another game on Saturday.  Regional tournament action is also scheduled for late in the week in Classes 2A and 1A.

Below is the entire list of games for all five classifications.  We’ll post game times as they become available and that information can be sent directly to Colorado Preps by email to kevin@coloradopreps.com.  We of course will also track all scores of all games in all classes throughout the weekend.  You can get those scores online and also on our twitter feed with the hash tag #coloradopreps.

WHAT???

MaxPreps is showing the CHS Pueblo West Great 8 game at 8:45 AM????

Why would anyone schedule a quarterfinal State Championship playoff game before 9 AM?
I guess CHSAA isn't interested in having the students attend the game. Nothing like making the Great 8 game feel like a 6th grade club game! It would be so easy to have games at 1,3,5, and 7 PM. or 2,4,6, and 8 PM. Instead we get 8:45 AM, 11:45 AM, 4 PM , and 7 PM. Three of those times are fine, but the 8:45 AM time is absurd.

What a disappointment for P West and CHS. CHS always travels well, and last year in the Great 8, we had to use 2 school's sections to fit all our fans (1 sections for adults and 1 section for students). This year I guess we'll have 27 parents. Yipee. Since it will be so early, with so few fans, maybe we should just play at the local YMCA, it will have the same atmosphere.

Actually, I looked and this year they are doing boys and girls at the same venue. I think having 8 games at one place on one day is a mistake, but if you do that you have to have a very early game. It also makes sense that they set it up so that Broomfield, D'Evelyn, and Sand Creek fans can watch both the boys and girls games back-to-back. I think it would still be better to have 2 venues and have boys and girls games at both venues so any situation like above can still be handled, but not have to make anyone play a game early so early in the AM. I think they should try to not have any games before 10:30 AM.

Classes 1A, 2A and 3A state tournaments have been conducting 8:00-8:45am games every year since Colorado Preps debuted in 2003 and well before then.  They always play eight games at one venue on both Thursday and Friday and then trim to six on Saturday.  It used to be eight games on Saturday as well before they eliminated the 7th place games.  The same with volleyball.  That action gets underway at 8:00am both days as teams work their way through the pool rounds.

I think we'll see Paonia, Lutheran, Akron, ECA, Meeker, Vanguard, Yuma, and Las Animas. Peyton could sneak in over Las Animas, should be a good game. I really think the committee got the Girl's seeding correct. I really thought Lutheran would get the #1 seed, but I think they got it right with Akron as they beat Lutheran in the finals and are undefeated on the season. I know Lutheran played a 3A schedule but everybody, that knows anything, agrees that 3A is not as strong this year and Akron returned their top 7 from last year. Should be a fun 2 weeks!!

i like the seeding overall for the 2a girls the akron-lutheran debate is tough either way but the way everything sets up there could be some very good regional champion games. I think ECA vs Sangre, Meeker vs Simla, and Peyton vs Las Animas have a chance to be very entertaining.
