Swink and Fowler Collide in the Santa Fe Conference
An in-city battle in Colorado Springs and a great rivalry along the Arkansas River headline the Thursday night volleyball schedule across the state. Pine Creek faces Lewis Palmer in a cross classification matchup while Swink and Fowler renew their great rivalry in the Santa Fe conference.
Pine Creek has opened the season with a 3-0 record but getting there hasn’t been easy as they played three five set matches. The schedule has also been difficult with wins over top ten opponents Lakewood and Eaglecrest sandwiched around a victory against a solid Air Academy club. Tonight’s match will also set up Pine Creek for a run through the rugged Eaglecrest tournament on Friday and Saturday.
Lewis Palmer began the season ranked second in Class 4A before losses to Legend (3-2) and 3A #1 Valley (2-0) dropped them to fifth this week. They stand at 6-2 and this match opens a difficult stretch for the Rangers who also visit Coronado on Saturday and Doherty next week.
In 2A, Swink and Fowler have each already dropped a league match to Rye so the Lions and Grizzlies both need a win to stay within range early in the conference race. Swink whipped Hoehne and Las Animas in the Santa Fe before falling to Rye in three. Fowler, which has several new faces in their lineup this year, has won two straight since dropping a five setter to the Thunderbolts on September 4th. Since each league team plays each other twice, both teams get another crack at Rye before the end of the regular season.
