The four smaller classes of football all experienced top 10 matchups that caused some movement in their rankings.  Couple that with early head-to-head results among the top clubs and there may be some surprises put forth this week.
These rankings are from Colorado Preps and are published each Sunday.  CHSAA releases official football polls each Monday.

CLASS 2A

#1 Kent Denver (4-0)
#2 Bayfield (4-0)
#3 Platte Valley (4-0)
#4 Classical Academy (4-0)
#5 La Junta (3-1)
#6 Sterling (3-1)
#7 Alamosa (3-1)
#8 Faith Christian (3-1)
#9 Basalt (3-1)
#10 Salida (4-0)
TEAMS TO WATCH:  Aspen (4-0), D’Evelyn (1-3), Delta (1-3), Machebeuf (4-0), Elizabeth (3-1), Weld Central (3-1), Coal Ridge (3-1)
NOTES:  With Kent Denver’s win over La Junta on Saturday, there is some shuffling among the top five teams.  The Sun Devils remained number one with the win while La Junta dropped two spots to fifth.  Bayfield scored a huge win over Durango last week beating the Demons for the first time in school history.  The Wolverines remain second and continue to push Kent Denver for the top spot.  Platte Valley jumped up to third and ahead of Classical Academy thanks to a win over D’Evelyn.  We moved them ahead of TCA based on margin of victory against D’Evelyn; the Broncos won 35-6 and the Titans 24-21.  Spots six through nine are in the same order as a week ago and Salida joins the poll for the first time at number ten.  They edged fellow unbeaten Aspen for the spot vacated by D’Evelyn due to schedules.  Aspen has beaten teams with more wins (6-4), but two of their wins are against 1A opponents and Salida has beaten three 2A clubs and one 1A opponent.

CLASS 1A

#1 Bennett (4-0)
#2 Meeker (4-0)
#3 Strasburg (3-1)
#4 Centauri (5-0)
#5 Paonia (3-1)
#6 Limon (3-1)
#7 Platte Canyon (3-0)
#8 Crowley County (4-1)
#9 Burlington (2-2)
#10 Cornerstone Christian (3-1)
TEAMS TO WATCH:  Highland (2-2), Monte Vista (2-2), Wray (2-2), Hotchkiss (3-1), Colorado Springs Christian (3-1), Clear Creek (4-0), Rocky Ford (3-1), Peyton (3-1), Grand Valley (2-2)
NOTES:  The top seven is almost in the same order as last week.  The only change can be found in s pots five and six where Paonia and Limon exchange those positions.  Limon lost one spot because of a two point loss to #3 Strasburg on Saturday.  Paonia meantime hammered Roaring Fork with ease.  The bottom three positions all involve newcomers to the rankings.  Crowley County gets back in with their win over the Mullen JV.  Burlington joins the poll despite a loss to top ranked Bennett and they’re placed ahead of Cornerstone Christian who upended Wray.  Burlington lost to Bennett by 12 points last week; Cornerstone fell 58-7 in week one.  Margin of victory against a common opponent gives the edge to the Cougars.  Burlington’s other loss was in week one to #3 Strasburg.  The three newcomers replace Wray, Monte Vista and Highland.  Wray and Monte Vista (to Meeker) both lost last week and Highland was involved in a bye week.  But since Wray dropped out and they have a win over Highland, the Huskies were also dropped out of the rankings.

EIGHT-MAN

#1 Sedgwick County (3-0)
#2 Haxtun (4-0)
#3 Holly (3-0)
#4 Hoehne (3-1)
#5 Dayspring Christian (3-1)
#6 West Grand (4-0)
#7 Fowler (4-0)
#8 Merino (4-0)
#9 Gilpin County (3-1)
#10 Caliche (2-2)
TEAMS TO WATCH:  Sargent (1-3), Norwood (2-1), Soroco (3-1), Hayden (4-0), Akron (2-2), Caliche (2-2), McClave (3-1), Mancos (3-1)
NOTES:  It was somewhat of a crazy weekend in eight man football as Dayspring Christian and Norwood were both knocked off.  They were ranked #2 and #3 last week but the Eagles were upended by Hoehne and the Mavericks handled by Sargent.  Dayspring Christian lost three spots and Norwood tumbled completely out of the rankings.  The stair step of head-to-head losses cost the Mavericks so many places.  They lost to Sargent, which lost to Caliche.  So when we put the Buffs in ahead of Sargent, we must also go with Gilpin County in the rankings since they have a win over Caliche.  Soroco is also the hard luck team this week.  They moved to 3-1 with a win over Rangely (34-12) but the Rams lost their spot in the poll when Norwood fell out.  Norwood beat Soroco 51-26 earlier this season.

 SIX-MAN

#1 Peetz (3-0)
#2 Stratton/Liberty (4-0)
#3 Cheyenne Wells (4-0)
#4 Prairie (4-0)
#5 Otis (4-0)
#6 Kit Carson (3-1)
#7 North Park (3-1)
#8 Cotopaxi (4-0)
#9 Genoa Hugo (2-2)
#10 Fleming (1-3)
TEAMS TO WATCH:  Sierra Grande (4-0), La Veta (3-1), Briggsdale (2-2), Arickaree/Woodlin (2-2), Eads (2-2)
NOTES:  The most important game played in six-man last week occurred in the Southeast where Cheyenne Wells edged Kit Carson 14-6.  The win gives the inside track to the league championship to the Tigers while Kit Carson may have to rely on a wildcard berth to enter the post-season.  Cheyenne Wells also remained solid at number three with the win while the Wildcats lost two spots to sixth.  Prairie and Otis both won easily to stay perfect on the season and each climbed one spot this week.  Genoa Hugo and Fleming exchanged the final two positions in the rankings.  Genoa Hugo scored a very important league win over Hanover while Fleming dropped their second straight against a Nebraska opponent.  The Wildcats are 1-1 against Colorado opponents and tradition keeps them ahead of Sierra Grande and La Veta who have a combined seven wins.
