As usual, the radio waves will be full on Friday night as the scores of high school football games across Colorado will be tracked down.

What is unusual about the 2026 version is that there will be a new voice behind the microphone. Longtime Colorado broadcaster Marty Cesario steps in for Colorado Preps Kevin Shaffer as Shaffer joins CHSAA and the NFHS Network to spearhead the streaming efforts statewide.

Cesario is a Colorado State graduate with vast experience in play-by-play and sideline reporting of both high school and college sports. He is currently the sideline reporter and pregame host for CSU football broadcasts. But like Shaffer, he has a big soft spot for high school athletics.

He’s excited to take over the Scoreboard Show and knows that Shaffer is a longtime fixture on these airwaves that simply cannot be replaced.

“Tradition is a word I use when we’re talking about the Colorado Preps Network and the Scoreboard Show,” Cesario said. “I’ve been a longtime fan of this very useful and personal thing that Kevin Shaffer coached, managed, and quarterbacked for 23 seasons. I’ve also been an occasional contributor. So for me to be taking the wheel now, following a person and a pro like that, with his approval, with this team of studs who are working to extend the tradition of what Kevin shared with so many, for so long… it’s a unique privilege for me. It’s a special responsibility. It’s a very fun opportunity. I’m in!”

Cesario jumps in on an ideal week with a slate of fantastic games across the state. In Denver, the Scoreboard Show can be heard on Altitude Sports Radio AM 950. It can also be heard statewide at our 15 radio affiliates and three streaming affiliates.
