The top two teams in this bracket hail from the Pikes Peak League, battle-tested not only against each other, but also 5A juggernaut Rampart. Discovery Canyon gives that league three teams, but it’s not the league with the most squads in contention. Thanks to a pair of upsets in regional play, both the NCAA League and Longs Peak League have four representatives.
Third-ranked Windsor is the NCAA League’s top qualifier and they’ve only lost to two playoff opponents — Palmer Ridge and league opponent Erie. The Tigers nine matches against playoff opponents, topped only by fellow NCAA League team Mead. The Mavericks earned the 12th spot in the bracket by upsetting Montrose in the regional tournament, using their strong schedule to peak at the right time.
Longs Peak has four teams in the field as well, led by Thompson Valley at No. 4. Frederick sits at No. 5, followed by Niwot at No. 6. The upset challenger came from Berthoud, who won a tiebreaker set against host The Classical Academy to advance out of regionals.
Palisade is something of an enigma, as they’re the only team in 4A without a match against a team sharing the playoff bracket.
