Look to the South for a four-team frenzy to finish the league race, while Douglas County is on stand-by to determine the level of drama for next week. It is not likely yet still a possibility one team could shake up expectations of how the Front Range League will end. All other league decisions are done.
The upcoming regular-season tournaments and the RPI DigaPut Data 5:1 rankings also hold the sustained attention of Class 5A Volleyball here in mid-October.
Let’s check some results and what is next on the playlist for Week Nine:

Tuesday, October 16

CENTENNIAL: #5 Cherokee Trail (14-4, 5-2) wins in 3 sets at #7 Eaglecrest (13-5, 5-2)
In the second round of Centennial League Challenge matches, the 5th-ranked Cougars sweep their neighborhood rivals for the second time in three weeks.

COLORADO SPRINGS METRO: Rampart (11-5, 3-1) in 3 sets over Liberty (13-8, 2-2)
Rams in a four-way jam with two to play on the league schedule.

JEFFCO: Chatfield (12-5, 6-1) wins in 4 sets at Ralston Valley (11-7, 5-2)
Chargers win last three sets and hop over the Mustangs in RPI math. Each was on the cusp of consideration for an at-large regional host seed.

JEFFCO: #2 Valor (17-0, 7-0) wins in 3 sets at Bear Creek (10-6, 3-4)
2nd-ranked Eagles have now won 21 of 22 sets in 2018 league play and 51 of 53 sets overall.

CONTINENTAL: Rock Canyon (10-6, 8-0) wins in 4 sets over ThunderRidge (10-5, 5-3)
Jaguars’ ball is rollin’ right into the final two league matches — one with the defending champs and then the finale with #1.

CONTINENTAL: #1 Chaparral (16-1, 8-0) wins in 3 sets at Highlands Ranch (9-8, 5-3)
Six consecutive sweeps for the top-ranked Wolverines — who have won 24 of 25 sets during the league run.

DENVER PREP: #8 Denver East (13-4, 4-0) wins in 5 sets at Thomas Jefferson (4A)(10-8, 4-1)
Fifth consecutive season the 8th-ranked Angels finish their city schedule without a loss.

Thursday, October 18

COLORADO SPRINGS METRO: Rampart (11-5, 3-1) at Doherty (12-5, 3-1)
Two to play for each squad. Doherty wants to win this, collect a likely victory over Palmer then hope for a Coronado loss. And what do ya know? Rampart finishes their league schedule against Coronado next week.

CONTINENTAL: Rock Canyon (10-6, 8-0) at #10 Castle View (11-5, 6-3)
10th-ranked Sabercats are positioning to host a regional. However, it’s the R.C. Jaguars who have an opportunity to force a final showdown for a Continental League title next week with Chaparral.

CONTINENTAL: ThunderRidge (10-5, 5-3) at #1 Chaparral (16-1, 8-0)
Even though Chap’ hasn‘t lost in this series since 2013, the Grizzlies are a Continental squad with double-digit wins.

JEFFCO: #2 Valor (16-0, 6-0) at Ralston Valley (11-6, 5-0)
2nd-ranked Eagles hope to make this a victory lap after clinching their new league.

FRONT RANGE: Rocky Mountain (12-4, 7-2) at Loveland (14-3, 9-1)
The Lobos are on the top side of the bubble for regional host considerations. Meanwhile, the Indians are a one-loss Front Range team that finishes league play with this one and then 3rd-ranked Fossil Ridge next week.

COLORADO SPRINGS METRO: Pine Creek (7-10, 3-1) at Coronado (8-9, 3-1)
Pine Creek has to win this and their match with Liberty next week then hope for a Doherty loss.
A quirky part of the plot in this league race is Coronado could win it with a victory here then another at Rampart next week. And turn around to root for the P.C. Eagles to drop Liberty.

Friday, October 19

SOUTHWESTERN: Durango (4A)(7-9, 3-3) at Fruita Monument (13-2, 7-0)
Wildcats could finish league play at 8-0 for a second consecutive season. They had to win the last two of a five-set battle against the Demons last week.
