DENVER – It turns out, any Jaguar can pounce when needed.
Jacob David got in early foul trouble and Cooper Ellwood struggled to score early, but Davis May was right there to get Rock Canyon a 66-52 over Grandview to advance to the Class 6A boys basketball Final 4.
Davis got called for his third foul early in the third quarter and didn’t score a point until sinking a free throw in the third. But May ended with a game-high 20, which was also a season-high for the senior guard, to guide the Jags to comfortable win at Denver Coliseum.
“If one person [for us] can’t score, someone else can,” May said. “Most teams have just one or two guys that can score. Everyone on our team can score and that’s what makes us really special.”
The Jags meet the winner of Chaparral/Mountain Vista in next week’s Final 4. Rock Canyon beat Mountain Vista by four on Feb. 6 and lost Chaparral by four on Jan. 23.

When Aidan Perez was under pressure, he wasn’t missing anything.
When his team needed offense in the second half, he was hitting from long range, going 4-for-5 from 3-point range. And when he needed to throw up in the trash can, he always made it on time.
Perez scored a game-high 18 points while not feeling well to get Rangeview into the 6A boys Final 4. After a choppy first half of play where Rangeview led 13-12 at the break, the lid finally came off the rim and the Raiders went on a 38-21 run in the second half.
“I did what I had to do and what was needed for the team,” Perez said.
The Raiders advanced to the semifinals last year where they lost to eventual state champion Eaglecrest.
