The start the season, Haxtun decided to take on the challenge of facing an 11-man team in Holyoke. Now turnabout’s fair play. The Fightin Bulldogs face a Fleming team that will have to make the adjustment and play by 8-man rules.

The showdown between 8-man’s top-ranked team and the No. 2 team in 6-man is the biggest highlight of the slate 8-man football in Week 5.

(6-man 2) Fleming at (1) Haxtun

Haxtun has played just two 8-man games and both were against ranked teams. They beat Holly in Week 3 and Mancos in Week 4 both of which came after the Bulldogs beat Holyoke 50-32 in their season opener. Ryland Wolff and Michael Gerk each average over 100 rushing yards per game and have combined to score nine touchdowns.

Fleming is coming off two weeks of not playing after getting a forfeit win over Granada in Week 3 and having a bye last week. Braylen Feather is throwing for 212 yards per game and has thrown eight touchdown passes and has yet to be picked off this season.

(2) Dove Creek at Monticello (UT)

Fresh off a 48-26 win over Hayden, the Bulldogs head out of state in Week 5. Kade Hankins rushed for a staggering 344 yards and four touchdowns in the win last week and will look to have another big game on Friday.

(5) Mancos at Whitehorse (Thursday)

Following its first loss of the season, Mancos hits the road for Utah to take on a 1-2 Whitehorse team. The Bluejays will likely continue to lean on Kail Wayman who has rushed for 134 yards per game and scored eight touchdowns. The team as a whole has forced eight turnovers in four games which is a big factor behind the 3-1 start to the year.

Wiley at (9) Sanford

Sanford bounced back from its loss to Simla with a 56-22 win over Fowler last week. The Mustangs are averaging just over 40 points per game in their three wins so finding the end zone often will likely lead to good things for them.

Wiley is coming off a big win of its own as it topped Calhan 44-18 last week.

St. Mary’s at (10) Holly

After losing to Haxtun in Week 3, the Wildcats got a huge win over Akron in Week 4 which reminded the 6-man field that they’re still a good team. Andre Salgado threw for 193 yards and a touchdown while Dominique Maldonado rushed for 122 yards and a score in the win over Akron.

Holly will try and slow the momentum of St. Mary’s, who got its first win of the season last week as it beat Soroco 44-22.
