There are just two days left in the Class 6A and 5A regular seasons, but plenty remains undecided.

On the Western Slope, 5A No. 1 Palisade’s regular-season finale on the road at 6A No. 6 Fruita Monument on Friday night could determine 5A’s top seed, Fruita Monument’s home-court advantage and the 6A/5A Southwestern League champion.

If the Bulldogs (20-2, 7-2 Southwestern) win, they’ll claim the league championship and, in all likelihood, secure the top seed in the 5A playoffs, which begin next week. They beat the Wildcats 78-68 behind Carter Hayward’s 27 points in their first meeting on Jan. 23.

A loss by Fruita Monument (17-5, 8-1) could jeopardize its standing among 6A’s top eight — the teams guaranteed home court through the round of 16 before play shifts to the Denver Coliseum. A win by the Wildcats, however, would give them the league crown and, more than likely, two playoff games at home, where they’re 6-2 this season, with losses to No. 1 Chaparral and No. 5 Rock Canyon.

Then, on Saturday, No. 2 Ralston Valley hosts No. 3 Arvada West to decide the 6A Jeffco League champion. The Wildcats (21-1, 10-1) were the last remaining undefeated team in 6A when they beat the Mustangs (21-1, 10-1), 45-42, on Jan. 31 — but it was short-lived. They fell to No. 21 Columbine three days later, 56-53.

Elsewhere, 5A No. 1 Palisade at 6A No. 6 Fruita Monument is Friday at 7 p.m. No. 3 Arvada West at No. 2 Ralston Valley is Saturday at 3 p.m.

Here’s a look at a few more games with league or playoff implications:

Class 6A

No. 23 Liberty at No. 27 Pueblo West, Saturday, 1 p.m.

At stake: The Lancers (15-7, 8-2 Colorado Springs Metro League) are trying to hold onto a first-round bye, granted to the top 24 seeds in the 6A and 5A playoffs.

They won’t have a chance to surpass No. 24 Doherty for the CSML title. The Spartans (14-9, 10-2) beat Liberty in both meetings this winter and wrapped up the league championship with a 60-54 win at No. 49 Pine Creek on Thursday.

A win for Pueblo West (15-7, 6-5), meanwhile, might not be enough to lift the Cyclones into the top 24, but it could knock the Lancers out. No. 25 Broomfield and No. 26 Northfield are also in the mix for a bye with 48 hours remaining in 6A’s regular season.

No. 8 George Washington vs. No. 4 Rangeview at Manual High School, Saturday, 4 p.m.

At stake: The Denver Public Schools Tournament Gold Division championship game will likely have a greater impact on George Washington (15-7) than Rangeview (19-3).

Trying to hold onto a top-eight seed and home court through 6A’s Sweet 16, the Patriots were only fractions of a point ahead of No. 9 Horizon entering Friday.

Meanwhile, the Raiders appear to have home court wrapped up as they attempt to reach the Final Four for a second straight season.

Rangeview has beaten George Washington in its last five meetings, including twice this season and in last year’s Sweet 16.

Class 5A

No. 43 Durango at No. 24 Montrose, Friday, 7 p.m.

At stake: The Demons (4-16, 0-10 Southwestern) have lost 10 straight and haven’t won a league game this winter. But at No. 43, a win against No. 24 Montrose could put them within reach of cracking the 40-team 5A postseason field.

The Red Hawks (12-10, 3-6) were comfortably inside the top 24 a couple of weeks ago but have lost five of their last six games. A loss Friday would almost certainly ruin their chances of landing a first-round bye.

Montrose beat Durango 43-39 in the teams’ first meeting on Jan. 24. Freshman Cache Oberg had a game-high 14 points in the win.

No. 2 Severance at No. 41 Greeley West, Saturday, 1 p.m.

At stake: The Wildcats (10-12) are trying to force their way into the 40-team playoff field. They had a chance to move up Thursday against No. 38 Mountain View but lost 70-61.

Upsetting the Silver Knights (18-3) would almost certainly push them into the field. However, the boost to their strength of schedule after Saturday could do that on its own as well.

No. 40 Montbello (12-10) is trying to hold onto the final 5A playoff spot as it faces 6A No. 47 Denver North in the DPS Tournament on Saturday.

Class 4A

No. 4 Timnath at No. 33 Berthoud, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

At stake: Berthoud (8-11) is chasing No. 32 Sterling (8-13) for the final playoff spot in 4A. The Spartans have three games remaining — 4A No. 50 Northridge, No. 20 The Classical Academy and No. 4 Timnath.

They need to take care of business at Northridge on Saturday to stay on pace. However, a win over either The Classical Academy or Timnath may be enough on its own to secure them a postseason berth.
