Among girls basketball games to watch this week is a face-off between the top-ranked teams in the Class 6A and 5A.

On Friday, Pine Creek (8-0) hosts Air Academy (8-0), putting not only two of the best teams in the state up against one another — but a few of the best players in Colorado.

The Eagles are led by returning 6A second-teamer Brooklyn Stewart, who is averaging 20.8 points and 12.2 rebounds. In their first meeting with the Kadets since 2022, they’ll go up against a dynamic scoring duo in Tatyonna Brown (19.8 PPG, 8.4 RPG) and Lydia Flowers (16.4 PPG), who are fifth and 11th in 5A scoring through the first month of the season.

Below are a few other must-watch games over the next week.

Class 6A

No. 5 Valor Christian at No. 4 Broomfield; Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Broomfield’s Reece Gilpatrick has been among the best freshmen in the state this season, averaging 13 points and 6.7 rebounds for the unbeaten Eagles (7-0).

On Saturday, Broomfield beat Cherry Creek, 67-60, behind 17 points from senior Olivia Kim (11.6 PPG). Gilpatrick added 12 points and 13 boards.

Against defending champ Valor Christian (6-2), which beat No. 2 Grandview on Saturday, Broomfield will need an answer for the Highlands Ranch power’s duo of junior Peyton Jones (21.4 PPG) and senior Quinn VanSickle (17.3 PPG). VanSickle was the 6A player of the year last season.

No. 2 Grandview at No. 9 Ralston Valley; Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Sienna Betts is averaging 22.6 points and 19.1 rebounds for the Wolves (6-3), who will look to get back in the win column after falling at Valor Christian on Saturday, 65-62.

Ralston Valley (6-2) lost to No. 1 Pine Creek and No. 4 Broomfield before the winter break — both by just four points. It then started 2025 with a double-overtime win at No. 3 Highlands Ranch.

Sophomore Santana Sabus is averaging 23.9 points and 9.9 boards for the Mustangs.

Class 5A

No. 5 Durango at No. 6 Pueblo East; Friday at 3 p.m.

The Demons (6-2) haven’t allowed an opponent to score 30 points during their current five-game winning streak.

On Friday, that’ll be difficult to maintain as they’ll have their hands full with junior point guard Myah Abeyta (22.9 PPG). Abeyta has helped Pueblo East (60 PPG) to five straight wins.

Before Friday — which will be the first time these programs have met since 2013 — the Eagles will face No. 8 Falcon for the second time in less than a week on Thursday. The Eagles held off the Falcons in the second half last Friday, winning 51-41.

No. 9 Roosevelt hosts 6A No. 2 Grandview; Saturday at 1 p.m.

The two-time defending champs will host Betts and the Wolves in the programs’ first meeting in recent memory.

Reigning 5A player of the year Kyla Hollier is averaging 27.2 points and 9.8 rebounds for the Roughriders (5-1).

Class 4A

No. 2 Berthoud at No. 6 Timnath; Friday at 6 p.m.

Avery Pfohl is averaging 19.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 4.4 steals for undefeated Berthoud (9-0).

Before facing Timnath on Friday, the Spartans open up a four-game road swing at 3A No. 4 Resurrection Christian on Wednesday. The trip ends Jan. 17 at 5A No. 9 Roosevelt.

No. 8 Delta at No. 5 Alamosa; Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

The Mean Moose (6-1) will play two games in less than 20 hours, starting with Montrose at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Before that, their last game was on Dec. 21 — a win over Gunnison.

Senior Morgan Ortega (11.1 PPG) has shot 50% or better in three of her last five games for Alamosa.

Delta (5-5), meanwhile, beat No. 7 Peak to Peak earlier last month and hung tough through three quarters against No. 3 Holy Family in a 57-44 loss last week.
