It’s been a busy opening month for Grand Junction’s boys lacrosse team.

The Tigers played seven games in March, then hosted consecutive Class 4A Mountain League games against Durango last weekend.

After Tuesday’s league victory over Fruita Monument, Grand Junction (9-1, 6-1) had played 10 games in 26 days. It’s been a productive stretch too for the No. 4 Tigers, who continue to build their way back into contention in 4A.

Three years ago Grand Junction was just 6-9, and followed that up with a .500 season in 2024. The team took the next step last spring, finishing with 11 victories and making the postseason before falling to Steamboat Springs.

The core of that squad returned in 2026. Paxton Webber had 36 goals and 45 assists as a sophomore, and is on his way to at the very least matching that in 2026. The junior has 33 goals and 30 assists, and fellow junior Adyn Cassity has 34 goals and 14 assists of his own.

Among the highlights of March was a 9-8 overtime victory over Telluride in the season opener. The Miners took a game back by handing Grand Junction its only loss to date, 13-7, back on March 16. The Tigers picked up another victory over a top-10 team in Prairie View on March 27, and swept Durango by a combined margin of 43-2 over the weekend.

The team has only five games remaining in the regular season, but will get another test late in the month when current No. 9 Aspen heads west.
Here is a quick look at games to watch in the two classifications headed into the second week of April:

Class 5A

Regis Jesuit at Legend, 6 p.m., Monday, April 13
With 5A League 3 play under way, each matchup is a big one. Four teams in the league have at least six victories. Top-ranked Regis Jesuit (8-0, 2-0) has allowed only 37 goals in eight games, and the Raiders also had a run of three consecutive games with 20 goals scored. … While Legend (6-1, 1-1) may not score goals at the clip of Regis Jesuit, the Titans’ defense has been tough. The team had allowed only 20 goals before falling to Rock Canyon by one goal Tuesday. Seniors Logan Turner and Amaan Cambrelen combined for 39 goals in the first six games, while freshman Tyler Stohlton was allowing 3.3 goals a contest.

Class 4A

Lutheran at Evergreen, 6 p.m., Thursday, April 9
Lutheran continues a run against ranked opponents with a non-league tilt against last spring’s state runner-up in Evergreen. Before shutting out Rangeview on Tuesday night, the Lions (7-0) were coming off a 7-6 nail-biter against Golden. Freshman Brooks Honbarrier had three goals in that game and led Lutheran with 16 goals going into Tuesday. Senior Alex Brown’s 39 points were leading the team. … Evergreen (5-2) has been in some tights contests as well, with its five victories coming by a combined 11 goals. The Cougars open 4A Foothills League play Monday against Dakota Ridge in a rematch of the 2025 title game.
