Centaurus has been playing like it’s the postseason for more than two weeks now. But Saturday may be an actual elimination game.

With only four days left in the regular season, the Warriors are holding onto the final spot in Class 4A’s projected 32-team field. In their season finale Saturday, it could be “lose and go home” when the Warriors host 5A No. 34 Monarch.

“For the past couple of weeks it’s not so much talking about making the playoffs, but how big each game is moving forward,” Centaurus coach Derek DiCarlo said during his team’s playoff push late last month. “We’re playing where we want to go every day.”

Let’s take one final look at the 5A and 4A bubble.

Class 5A

Should be safe: No. 29 Riverdale Ridge and No. 30 Castle View.

Bubble teams

No. 31 ThunderRidge: The Grizzlies (8-12) have No. 52 Highlands Ranch, No. 25 Boulder and No. 5 Rocky Mountain left. They’ve won just once since April 20 but can’t afford to go winless over their last three games. They could use another power surge from sophomore Shane Christy, who has six homers this season but hasn’t gone deep since hitting two on April 22.

No. 32 Rampart: The Rams (10-10) have lost their first two games this month, including the first of two against No. 48 Vista Ridge on Thursday. They host the Wolves on Friday and are at 4A No. 10 Canon City on Saturday. Expect senior Vince Carpio to get some innings on the mound. He leads the team with a 2.28 ERA across 15 1/3 innings.

No. 33 Denver North: The Vikings (10-11) have 4A No. 56 Montbello and at least one more undecided league matchup remaining. This team beat No. 4 Erie last month, but has losses to fellow bubble teams ThunderRidge and Monarch. They’ll need good stuff from ace Santana Vital, who has a 2.21 ERA over 25 1/3 innings this spring.

No. 34 Monarch: The Coyotes (7-13) will likely need to win their final three games to have a chance of getting in. They have 4A No. 27 Silver Creek, No. 32 Centaurus and 5A No. 47 Poudre remaining. Earlier this month, they beat Denver North 6-4 behind a double and two RBIs from junior Blake Thompson.

Class 4A

Should be safe: No. 30 Longmont and No. 31 Montrose.

Bubble teams

No. 32 Centaurus: The Warriors (8-14), aiming for their second straight trip to the postseason, have lost four straight — one after leading late and another in 10 innings. They host 5A No. 34 Monarch on Saturday led by sophomore Logan Ukleja and his 10-game hitting streak.

No. 33 Pueblo Centennial: It’s as good a time as any for the Bulldogs (10-11) to snap their long losing streak against Pueblo South. The 4A No. 19 Colts have won seven straight in the series. The two play Saturday. Perhaps the wild card could be senior pitcher Landen Lenn. Despite an 8.80 ERA, he does have a no-hitter to his name this spring — a five-inning gem against Alamosa last month.
