It seems like yesterday, prep basketball season just came to an end and state champions were being crowned.

Well, now that roundball is in the rear-view mirror, baseball season is picking up steam.

That definitely is the case in the Class 3A, 2A and 1A ranks.

The top teams in the 3A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index are University (7-0); Eaton (6-0); and Prospect Ridge Academy (5-1). A year ago, University lost 3-2 to Coal Ridge in the state championship.

In 2A, the top three looks like this: Monte Vista (6-0); Wray (4-1); and Forge Christian (6-0).

Last year, Forge Christian won the 2A state championship, defeating Denver Christian 11-0 in the title game. This marked the fourth baseball state title for Forge Christian and their first since 2016.

As for 1A, Flatirons Academy (5-0); McClave (7-0); and Haxtun (6-1) are the top three in the seeding index.

Here are some games worth watching this week.

Class 3A

Roosevelt (7-0) at Prospect Ridge Academy (5-1), 4 p.m., April 2
This is a good early season test for sure. Roosevelt is unbeaten and coming off an 8-6 win over Fort Morgan on April 1. The Roughriders are No. 4 in the Class 4A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index, and they have outscored their opponents 83-15 in their perfect start to the season.

Roosevelt is led offensively by seniors Kayden Bryant (.550); Mason Sauer (.478); and Dalton Baudino (.455). Prospect Ridge will counter with sophomores Austin Huffman (.429); Josiah Bote (.350) and senior Gabriel Hinojos (.333).

Prospect Ridge enters this game after a key 4-2 win over Denver Christian on March 31.

Class 2A

Byers (6-1) at Denver Christian (3-3), 4 p.m., April 2
Byers is ranked No. 8 in the latest Selection & Seeding Index and is coming off a tough 11-1 loss to Limon on March 31.

Before its setback against Limon, Byers had outscored its opponents 75-21.

Now, the Bulldogs will try to bounce back against Denver Christian. Byers is paced offensively by sophomore Osiris Aldana (.474); junior Gabe Price (.417) and Wesley Butterfield (.400).

Denver Christian, which was the Class 2A state runner-up in 2025, is No. 11 in the seeding index. The Thunder have lost two games in a row to Scappoose (10-1) and Prospect Ridge Academy (4-2).

DC’s top offensive hitters are junior Trey Speir (.529); freshman Cuatro Wilkins (.438); and sophomore Tanner McCoy (.353).

Class 1A

Akron (5-1) at Wray (4-1), 3 p.m., April 7
Akron is fresh off a historic season in 2025 that saw the Rams secure their first state title in program history. The Rams defeated Flatirons Academy 8-7 in the championship game.

After losing 9-3 to Flatirons Academy in its season opener, the Rams have won five games in a row, most recently an 8-3 win over Peetz on March 31.

Akron’s top offensive threat this season has been sophomore Jax Kusel (.615). Seniors Caleb Hansen (.375) and Clay Axtell (.333). Wray, which is ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A seeding index, will counter with sophomores Grady Godsey (.500); Hudson Rockwell (.500); and senior Gage Waitman (.444). Wray is coming off a 13-3 loss to Yuma March 30.
