ARVADA — Grandview senior Noah Sevy had a minute to remember Tuesday night in the Class 6A Sweet 16 game at Arvada West High School.

Sevy scored 7 points in the final 60 seconds to lift the No. 13-seeded Wolves to a dramatic come-from-behind 62-58 victory over No. 4 Arvada West. Grandview’s win was the lone upset in 6A’s round of 16 played Tuesday night as the remainder of the Great 8 was chalk.

Grandview will face No. 5 Rock Canyon on Friday, March 6, at the Denver Coliseum in the 6A quarterfinals.

A-West (22-3 record) held the lead for the majority of the game Tuesday night, even leading 57-51 with under 3 minutes to play. However, Grandview (18-7) finished the game on an 11-1 run to shock the Wildcats.

Sevy scored on a driving layup with just under a minute to play to cut A-West’s lead to 58-57. After a missed shot by A-West, the Wolves broke out in transition. Sevy put in a breakaway layup and was fouled with 39.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The senior converted the 3-point play to give the Wolves a 60-58 lead.

Another empty possession by A-West ended with Sevy with the ball again and he was fouled with 11 seconds remaining. He converted both free throws to push the lead to 62-58, the Wolves largest lead of the game.

A-West senior Noah Meurer, who finished with a game-high 22 points, missed a final 3-pointer on the Wildcats’ final possession. Sevy finished off the game dunking the ball after the buzzer sounded.

Sevy finished with a team-high 19 points. Junior Obi Morris had 14 points and senior Omar Atieh had 10 points for the Wolves.

Meurer was on fire from deep in the first quarter for A-West. The future football player at the University of Northern Colorado had five 3-pointers in the first quarter. Senior Keegen Balistreri, who is headed to play football at CSU-Pueblo, finished with 16 points in his final game for the Wildcats.

Junior Cooper Vais pitched in 15 points as A-West saw its season come to an end. The Wildcats went over the 20-win mark for the first time in more than two decades.
