Somebody needs to find a way to slow down Delta senior Jessie Black. If not, the Class 3A Panthers are as dangerous as any team in the state to capture a state title early next week.

The question is: How do you do that?

Black leads the state in goals, points and is second in assists. Her 124 points this spring are the seventh-most in the nation. Second to her in the state is Front Range Christian’s Amelie Boemper, who has 93.

Her 50 goals are the most in a season in Colorado since 2022, when DSST: Green Valley Ranch’s Tania Razo had 56 and The Academy’s AJ Loera had 53.

In these playoffs, she had three goals and four assists in a 10-0 win over Elizabeth in the opening round, then another two and an assist in a 6-0 second-round win over Roaring Fork.

With the postseason moving into the quarterfinals this week, the top four seeds in each of the state’s four classifications remained. That changed after Monday in 5A, where all four — No. 1 Mountain Vista, No. 2 Cherry Creek, No. 3 Pine Creek and No. 4 Ralston Valley — went down.

The 4A and 3A quarterfinals go on Tuesday, followed by 2A Wednesday. The 5A semifinals are on Thursday at the University of Denver.

Evergreen beat Dakota Ridge 5-1 on April 11, as part of the defending champions’ run to a 4A/3A JeffCo League title. Nadia Leunig scored twice in the Cougars’ 4-zip win over Ponderosa in the second round, while Gianna Weiner added her team-leading 18th.

The Eagles beat Palmer Ridge 2-1 in overtime in Round 2. Ava Arnold scored twice, including the OT winner. Kaylie Sheehan, who leads the team with 24 goals and 11 assists this spring, had an assist, her 14th game this season with at least a point.

No. 2 Green Mountain (15-0-2) vs. No. 10 Rampart (11-3-3) at JeffCo Lakewood Memorial on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Green Mountain has allowed just two goals in its last 14 games. It blanked Eagle Valley 5-0 in the first round, and Lewis-Palmer, 1-0, in the second.

No. 3 Windsor (14-3) vs. No 6 Mead (14-2) at Windsor High School on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Wizards have allowed just five goals this spring, the lowest in the classification. But they’ll have their hands full against the Mavericks, who combined to outscore their first two playoff opponents 10-0.

Of course, Windsor has been just as dominant in the postseason, touting an 11-0 edge.

No. 4 Lutheran (12-3-1) vs. No. 5 Durango (14-3) at Lutheran High School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Abby Megill has three goals so far in these playoffs for Lutheran, including the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Mullen in the second round.

Durango comes in on a 14-game win streak. Lila Scherer-Sickler scored in a 1-0 victory over Riverdale Ridge in the second round.

Colorado Academy outscored its first two postseason opponents by a combined 17-0. Lyla Kocher leads the team with 24 goals and 17 assists.

Stargate School, which lost 5-0 to CA in league play, got six goals from Lauren McLeese in Round 1, and the winner in Round 2 came from the team’s goals leader, Danie Lewis, who has 11.

No. 3 Delta (17-0) vs. No 11 Timnath (11-4-2) at Delta Middle School on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Delta has the highest-scoring offense (104 goals) this spring, led by Black, who’s been the state’s goals and points leader each of the past two seasons.

Timnath, after beating Lamar 8-nil in Round 1, upset Manitou Spring, 3-1, on the road in the second. Sophomore Lily Eisbrener already has three goals this postseason.

No. 4 Prospect Ridge Academy (14-3) vs. No. 5 Jefferson Academy (12-5) at Prospect Ridge Academy on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

PRA is having its best season in program history, in a season that saw it reign atop the 3A standings for multiple weeks.

But JA has still been a problem for the Miners as the Jags beat them 2-1 back in April for their ninth straight win in the series.

JA, last year’s state runner-up, is led by senior Brenna Kozlowski’s 20 goals and nine assists this spring. She’s already scored five times this postseason.

Class 2A

No. 1 Denver Christian (10-5-1) vs. No. 8 Flatirons Academy (11-3-2) at Denver Christian on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Buena Vista hasn’t allowed a goal since April 10, outscoring opponents 36-0 over the last month. The Demons beat both Woodland Park and SkyView Academy 5-0 to open the playoffs. Junior Mae Blazer has four postseason goals, giving her 18 on the season and 50 in her career.
