Three yards and a cloud of dust sounds pretty boring for Cambric Klinzmann. He operates on 23 yards and a trail of jet wash.

The Otis senior ran for nearly 23 yards per carry in an 86-36 win over Bethune last week. But the full stat line tells the story of a truly historical game in Colorado history.

His 428 total rushing yards are now the 16th most in a single game in Colorado. When factoring in his three receiving yards, he also has the 16th most all-purpose yards in state history with 431.

There are notable names to come out of Colorado that never achieved these marks, chief among them is Valor Christian’s Christian McCaffrey, who topped out at 403 all-purpose yards in a playoff game in 2012.

This is the best rushing performance in the state this season, a mark which was previously held by Burlington’s Scout Humrich, who had 319 in a win over Yuma last month.

Touchdowns tell another story. On his 19 carries, Klinzmann was tackled just eight times. He scored 11 touchdowns in the win, which puts him in extremely rare company.

He was one shy of tying the state record for rushing touchdowns in a game with 11. That distinction is held by Hugo’s Ken Pearson, who ran for 12 back in 1930. Almost 100 years later, Klinzmann became the second known player in state history to rush for double-digit touchdowns in a single game.

Otis currently has the distinction as the No. 2 team in the Colorado Preps rankings, although if the playoffs started today the Bulldogs would be the No. 7 seed. They meet on Prairie on Friday which will then setup a massive showdown with No. 1 Idalia on Oct. 16.
