The postseason mindset has already begun for many of Colorado’s girls basketball teams in the Class 3A, 2A and 1A. With just a little over one week left of the regular season, teams are looking to crack the top 32 in the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index to make the state tournament brackets.

Some squads have a handful of games still to play, while others might be staring at their last two regular season tilts. Likewise, some squads have worked their way up from slow starts to get into the fold.

Here’s a look at some of the teams on hot streaks, programs who may be under the radar heading into the final 10 days of the regular season.

Class 3A

Peyton: The Panthers have won six straight games to see their stock rise in the Index (currently No. 26) over the past two weeks. Their best win in that stretch was probably a 45-33 win against Twin Peaks Classical on Feb. 7, a game in which PHS overcame a 25-point effort from TPCA’s Kaleigh Van Pelt. Now 11-7, Peyton has its work cut out for it still, with tough games scheduled against Evangel Christian, North Fork and Cedaredge. The team’s four seniors will look to guide them into regionals.

Class 2A

Mancos: After starting 2-7, the Bluejays have gone 6-2 and are riding a four-game win streak that has pushed them to No. 29 in the Index. They’ve defeated Ridgway (Index No. 30) twice in that late run and they have three scheduled games ahead in Dolores (10-11), Center (12-6) and Telluride (1-17). Beating Center would be huge, but they probably don’t need that win to get in. Sophomore Tinsley Aspromonte has averaged 14.7 points over her past 10 games.

Class 1A

Hi-Plains: A three-game win streak might seem a little modest, but they’ve moved up to No. 22 in the Index because of wins over Otis (No. 30), Deer Trail (No. 34) and Miami-Yoder (No. 32). Losses against any of those teams, and it might be the Patriots who are on the bubble instead. Two winnable games await this weekend, and sophomore Cambria Seaman will look to continue building on a strong campaign so far. She was averaging 15.7 ppg through Feb. 7.
