The weather in Colorado has been all over the place this week, rain, snow, sleet and temperatures expected to reach the 70s and 80s as the week comes to a close.

One thing that is not unpredictable is the Class 3A, 2A, 1A playoff format.

The postseason is already in motion in 3A and in 2A and 1A the regular season ends May 12, followed by regional tournament play May 15-16.

The 1A postseason format is as follows at this point as the 16-team regional tourney takes place Saturday. The 1A semifinals and finals will take place at All-Star Park in Lakewood on Thursday May 14.

The No. 1 seed in the 16-team is Flatirons Academy (15-3). The eight games Saturday all offer intrigue and below we will take a closer look at the No. 8 Eads and No. 9 Otis.

While the 1A ranks will close the curtain on its season on May 14, 2A and 3A squads are ramping things up as they get ready for regional play next weekend.

In 2A and 3A each class will have 32 teams qualify for the regional tournament based on RPI/MaxPreps. League champions not in the top 32 will receive an automatic qualifying position (minimum 5 teams in a league for automatic berth). The eight (8) teams with the highest RPI/MaxPreps host regionals, the remaining 24 teams will then be seeded by RPI /MaxPreps and then any first-round league matchups will be adjusted. The bottom eight teams may be moved for geographical purposes.

The 2A and 3A state championship games will take place on May 30 at Runyon Field and Butch Butler Field in Pueblo and Greeley, respectively.
