Teams right now in Class 3A, 2A and 1A don’t want to be hiding in the shadows. They want to be standing in the postseason spotlight to qualify for an opportunity to take state in their respective classes.

For the third consecutive week Banning Lewis Academy (15-0) is holding down the top spot in the Class 3A CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index. The Stallions remained undefeated by hammering Salida (65-31) Tuesday. Strasburg (14-1) and Forge Christian (16-1) round out the top three.

Forge moved up into the No. 3 spot by thumping reigning 3A state champ Resurrection Christian (71-46) on Jan. 31, and Prospect Ridge Academy (68-53) on Feb. 3.

As for 2A, there was a change up at the top as Simla (11-3) moved up two spots to No. 1. The Cubs have won eight games in a row, including a narrow 69-63 victory over previously No. 1-ranked Byers, Jan. 28. Simla then kept its momentum going with victories over Merino (66-28) and Kiowa (62-22).

Simla’s top scorer is Tatum Kocerha (22 ppg).

The 1A Index has a new leader in McClave (11-2), followed by Nucla (15-0) and Prairie (12-3).

Class 3A

Roaring Fork (13-2) at Olathe (12-3), 7 p.m., Feb. 7

This is a big game on each side of the coin.

Roaring Fork is No. 7 in the latest Index and has a chance to keep edging forward. The Rams are trying to get into the top 5 and set themselves up for the state tourney.

The last time Roaring Fork and Olathe met was Jan. 17 and the Rams came away with an 89-67 victory. RF is led by Lucas Carballeira (20.4 ppg), followed by Kiko Pena (13.1 ppg) and Quentin Galbraith (11.5 ppg).

Olathe, which has won five games in a row, is paced by Isaiah Gordon (27.1 ppg) and Elijah Gordon (18.1 ppg) and Wyatt Fritze (10.1 ppg). Olathe is No. 18 in the updated Seeding Index.

Class 2A

Las Animas (9-5) at Crowley County (6-8), 7 p.m., Feb. 5

Las Animas has had a decent season as it is ranked No. 22 in the Index, but its season could get even better by defeating Crowley County, which is No. 19 in the rankings.

Las Animas has been reeling of late, sporting a 2-3 record in its last five games, including a 67-33 loss to Limon on Jan. 30. The Trojans did bounce back with a 51-47 win over Cheraw on Feb. 3 and will try and keep its momentum rolling with a victory over Crowley. The Trojans’ scoring chart is led by junior Aaron Vargas (13.8 ppg). Crowley, which lost two games in a row to Limon (44-41) and Lamar (64-42) but regrouped by ousting Swink (65-13). The time is now for the Chargers to make a postseason push – starting by finding a way to defeat Las Animas.

Class 1A

Wiley (12-3) at Cheyenne Wells (14-1), 3 p.m., Feb. 7

There’s no better time than this week for Wiley to make a move in the playoff rankings. The Panthers are No. 12 right now and Cheyenne Wells is No. 5.

Wiley first meets Manzanola (4-14) at 7 p.m., Feb. 6, and then clashes with Cheyenne Wells. Wiley has won four games in a row and is paced by Grant Mauch (16.1 ppg) and Mason Grasmick (10.5 ppg). Cheyenne Wells is at Kit Carson (5-9) at 6:30 p.m., Friday which is a tune-up for the Wiley bout.

Cheyenne Wells has won seven games in a row and has an offense led by Corey Hill (22.6 ppg) and Trey Scheler (11.9 ppg).
