It’s been seven years since Boulder High School’s girls soccer program last won a game in the state postseason. Even longer since it raised a league title banner.
Five games into 2025, still not enough is known about these Panthers to predict what will happen in May. But at 4-0-1 — and ranked second in the state by MaxPreps — while the future is unclear, the present sure has been a kick for them.
On Tuesday, they’ll look to remain unbeaten when they host Silver Creek (4-2). And after that, it won’t likely get any easier, with games against undefeated Ralston Valley (5-0), MaxPreps Colorado No. 1 Castle View (5-0-1) and perennial power Broomfield (2-3-1) in the span of seven days.
Let’s dive into a few strong — and some surprising — starts across the state.
Class 5A
Boulder Panthers
Ranking to know: MaxPreps ranks them No. 2 in Colorado and 87th in the nation.
The Panthers last played on March 20 – beating crosstown rival Fairview 1-0 on San Diego State-commit Mia DeJohn’s goal in the second half.
Tuesday, they’ll look to beat Silver Creek for a second straight season (won 4-0 in 2024).
By the time they play inside the 5A/4A Rocky Mountain League, starting April 15, more will be known about them and what they could be in 2025. Early on, it looks as though that league will come down to them or Mountain Range (6-1), who are both coming out of the vaunted Front Range League, or Riverdale Ridge (5-1-1).
Ralston Valley Mustangs
Ranking to know: Sophomore Santana Sabus is tied for the 5A goals lead with 11.
The Mustangs (5-0) allowed their first goal of the season in a 4-1 win over 4A defending champ Evergreen on Monday, and are now outscoring teams 24-1 through five games this spring.
Sabus has scored in each of their five games, with multiple scores in four of them. She recorded a hat trick in wins over Fruita Monument and Rocky Mountain last month.
Class 4A
Palmer Terrors
Ranking to know: MaxPreps ranks them No. 49 in Colorado.
The 49th spot in MaxPreps’ current Colorado rankings may not seem like a huge deal. But it should be for Palmer (4-0-1) given its recent history.
The Terrors haven’t had a winning season since before 2008. After finishing with just three wins a year ago (3-11-1), however, they notched their fourth win of 2025 on March 13 – beating Pueblo South 5-0.
On Tuesday, they host Fountain-Fort Carson (2-2), a team it has lost five straight to dating back to 2017.
Green Mountain Rams
Ranking to know: Senior Alyssa Hamilton is tied for the state lead in points with 31.
Hamilton, with 14 goals and three assists, has been a force during the Rams’ 6-0-1 start, which has included wins against projected postseason teams Riverdale Ridge and Air Academy. The draw came against 2024 champ Evergreen.
Dating back to 2018, the Rams have had double-digit wins in every full season. Last year, they reached the quarterfinals before bowing out to runner-up Lutheran.
Class 3A
Prospect Ridge Academy
Ranking to know: Ranked seventh in Colorado by MaxPreps; 147th in the nation.
The Miners (5-0), fresh off their first appearance in a boys basketball Final 4, could be in store for a successful girls soccer season, too.
They’ve outscored their first five opponents 21-1. All five of their opponents were 2024 playoff teams.
Senior Madison Skinner, after scoring 20 goals in 2024, already has eight this spring.
Delta Panthers
Ranking to know: Jessica Black has 12 goals in four games, the second-most in the classification.
The Panthers reached the 3A semifinals before getting blown out by Colorado Academy, 8-0, last spring. But that result hasn’t carried over in 2025.
Black, who led the state with 47 goals a year ago, has scored multiple in each game so far this spring. She had five and three assists in a 10-0 win over Moffat County last week.
Class 2A
Crested Butte Titans
Ranking to know: The top-ranked 2A team by MaxPreps.
Crested Butte’s girls program hasn’t had the success of the boys, who’ve won four titles for the school since 2018. Show-offs.
But, though it’s early, the Titans look as good as anybody in 2A this spring.
At 4-1-2, their only loss so far this spring came to 2024 3A semifinalist Delta – 2-1. They finished March on a three-game winning streak where it averaged more than four goals per game.
Front Range Christian Falcons
Ranking to know: Freshman Amelie Boemper is inside the top five in 2A in goals (10) and points (23).
The Falcons (4-0) are coming off two straight losing seasons but have outscored their first four 2025 opponents 25-3.
The early schedule hasn’t exactly been staunch, with three of their first four opponents still winless this spring. But they’ve proven to have a dynamic offense as they’ve scored at least four goals in each of their four wins.
