The end of the school year is here.
Seniors are graduating and ready to start the next chapter in their lives.
Speaking of chapters, the final chapter of the Colorado prep baseball season will be written this weekend in Class 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A when respective state champions will be crowned.
In Class 3A, top-seeded University was dominant last weekend in the state tournament, defeating No. 8 Wellington (6-2), The Classical Academy (6-0), and Eaton (19-2). Now, University, which is 26-2, awaits the winner of the consolation bracket and will face that team at 10 a.m., Saturday at Butch Butler Field in Greeley.
The Final 4 in 3A is No. 6 D’Evelyn (20-8) vs. No. 4 TCA (20-7) at 10 a.m., Friday. The winner of this game meets No. 2 Eaton (23-4) at 12:30 p.m., Friday. The victor of the 12:30 p.m. game moves on to face University and will have to beat the Bulldogs twice to win state.
University is paced by Damian Alvarez (.527) and Derek Casillas (.505). Eaton’s top hitters are Malaki Dalpra (.514) and Greyson Clingan (.458).
TCA is paced by Zach Mediavilla (.533) and Chase Rorabaugh (.435) and D’Evelyn has Knox Balcer (.500) and Leo Vigil (.438) in its fold.
University has won five state baseball championships – 1982, 1992, 1997, 2018 and 2019. The Bulldogs have been state runners-up the last four years.
Eaton has 15 baseball state crowns – 1994, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
The Classical Academy has 20 boys state championships in school history, but none in baseball. D’Evelyn also is aiming to win the school’s first state baseball title.
Class 2A
The Class 2A state tourney hasn’t had many surprises.
No. 1 seed Forge Christian (26-2) is on track to win back-to-back state championships. The Fury disposed of No. 8 Front Range Christian (15-0); No. 5 Dayspring Christian Academy (12-3); and previously unbeaten No. 2 Monte Vista (3-2 in 11 innings).
Forge Christian is now in the state championship game at 10 a.m., Saturday, at Hobbs Field at the Runyon Field Sports Complex.
The Fury will take on the winner of the consolation round.
No. 4 Denver Christian (19-9) meets No. No. 3 Yuma (23-5) at 10 a.m., Friday. The DC-Yuma winner advances to play Monte Vista (25-1) at 12:30 p.m., Friday, at Hobbs Field.
Forge Christian is led by Ben McLean (.560) and Carsen Hughes (.527). Monte’s sluggers are Azariah Hurtado (.529) and Judah Howe (.506).
Denver Christian’s Cuatro Wilkins (.387) and Tanner McCoy (.366) are setting the pace for the Thunder. Yuma’s Jesus Rodriguez (.433) and Lennox Huwa (.427) lead the team offensively.
Forge Christian, formerly known as Faith Christian until the fall of 2023, has won four baseball state championships in 2007, 2011 and 2016 in 3A and 2025 in 2A its first as Forge Christian.
Monte Vista is trying to win the school’s first state baseball crown as is Yuma.
Denver Christian has four state championships on its resume in 1996, 2013, 2023, and 2024.
