Dawson senior Charlie Martin is making the claim for several year-end honors.

His case? A state-best 26 goals and 56 points.

The senior scored 19 times during a five-game winning streak for the Class 2A No. 6 Mustangs, one that finally came to an end in a 3-1 loss to No. 11 Bishop Machebeuf on Friday.

Martin opened the winning streak with nine-goal half in a shortened win over Addenbrooke Classical Academy on Sept. 6. Nine goals alone is tied for 41st most in the state.

In this week’s look-in on boys soccer, we’ll check in on a few stats leaders in each classification, and what it means for their respective teams.

Class 5A

Saves: Fountain-Fort Carson’s Mateo Padilla (94)

The sophomore had a season-best 15 saves in a 2-1 loss to Coronado on Thursday, the first loss of the season for the 5A No. 21 Trojans (7-1-1).

Days before it, he stopped 11 shots in a 2-0 win over Discovery Canyon.

Goals: Westminster’s Jorge Robles Guzman (15)

Assists: Westminster’s Hugo Velasco (12)

In just six games with updated stats, the seniors respectively lead 5A in both goals and assists.

Their Wolves (6-2-1) are currently right on the bubble of the 32-team projected playoff field at No. 32. They open play in the 5A/4A Rocky Mountain League this week, a league that includes No. 1 Boulder.

Class 4A

Goals and assists: Harrison’s Manuel Cuellar (13 goals and 14 assists)

After finishing with seven goals and seven assists last year, the junior has nearly doubled his production in just 10 games this fall for the 4A No. 16 Panthers (7-2-1).

He scored twice and had three assists in a 6-0 win over Doherty on Thursday. His seven points against the Spartans were the seventh time this season he finished a game with multiple points and the sixth with at least four.

The Panthers have some time off before beginning play in the 4A Colorado Springs Metro League-South against Mesa Ridge on Oct. 10.

Saves: Sand Creek’s Alonzo Ayerdis (113)

The Scorpions (2-6-2) have allowed a lot of shots on target this season. Ayerdis has done his best with it.

In their first win in nine matches, he was credited with 21 saves in a 3-2 win over Mitchell on Thursday.

Class 3A

Goals: Manitou Springs’ Alexander Steger (20)

After scoring 15 times as a junior, Steger is putting on another masterclass in scoring for the 3A No. 12 Manitou Springs.

The senior scored twice in a win over Pueblo Centennial on Thursday, giving him 20 goals on the season. He now has at least two goals in six games this season — including an eight-goal outing against St. Mary’s last month.

Assists: Pueblo Central’s Elias Sandoval (10)

Saves: Pueblo Central’s Leo Styduhar (152)

In two games last week for the Wildcats (5-4-2) — a loss and draw — Sandoval had an assist in each and Styduhar combined for 23 saves.

Central, currently on the bubble of the 3A projected 32-team playoff field at No. 30, ends the season with four games against crosstown opponents.

It starts with Pueblo East on Tuesday, then Pueblo County (Oct. 8), Pueblo Centennial (Oct. 15) and Pueblo South (Oct. 19).

Class 2A

Goals: Dawson’s Charlie Martin (26)

Martin has scored a combined 58 goals the past three seasons for the Mustangs (6-2), who dropped to sixth in 2A after losing to No. 11 Bishop Machebeuf on Saturday.

Assists: Bishop Machebeuf’s Dominic Siegel (16)

Siegel tied his season high with four helpers in an 8-0 win over Heritage Christian a week ago. He followed it up with his fifth goal of the season in a 3-1 win over Dawson on Friday.

The Buffaloes (6-3) have turned things around since their three-game slide earlier in the month. They’ll look to keep it going at No. 26 SkyView Academy on Thursday.

Last year, Bishop Machebeuf finished runner-up to Crested Butte.

Saves: Front Range Baptist’s Tyler Hansen (151)

Hansen combined to make 51 saves in three losses last week for the Falcons (5-5-1).

In a 2-1 loss on Sept. 23 to No. 6 Dawson, which touts Colorado’s leading scorer in Martin, he gave the 25th-ranked Falcons a chance for the upset by making 18 saves.

This fall, he has made double-digit saves in eight of 11 games in net.
