The weather is finally warming up and spring is in the air and prep baseball is plentiful in the state.

State titles are not won in April, but foundations are being established right now for teams in Class 3A, 2A and 1A to put themselves in the state championship conversation.

With that being said, here’s a smattering of some noteworthy accomplishments and games to digest.

MUSTANGS TURNING HEADS: Yes, it is way too early in the season to make bold statements, but it is worth noting that Colorado Academy looks like it could be a team to beat in 3A. The Mustangs are sporting a 6-1 record, including a 4-3 win over highly touted University on March 11.

CA is paced at the plate by Riley Summers. The senior is hitting .471 with three RBIs and he has scored a team-best nine runs.

Defensively, pitcher Kieran Delaney has been the team’s ace. The junior is sporting a 5-0 record with a stellar 0.48 ERA.

Summers, Delaney and their mates will try to stay on a roll when they take on Prospect Ridge Academy (5-3) at 4 p.m., Thursday.

PANTHERS STALKING COMPETITION: The Panthers of Peyton have been on a torrid victory binge to start out the 2025 season.

Peyton has raced out to an 8-1 record, and it is making some early noise in 2A.

The Panthers are mashing the ball offensively led by Bryce Love. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound junior has a .538 average with 10 RBIs, and he also has 10 stolen bases. In his team’s 9-1 victory over Rye on Tuesday, Love was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double.

Fellow junior Zayden Ebbert has a .500 clip at the plate and has knocked in a team-high 15 RBIs.

Peyton will get a couple of tough tests when it collides with Byer (4-4) at 4 p.m., Thursday and then entertains Simla (3-2) at 10 a.m., Saturday.

PERFECTION IS WHERE EADS IS AT: Eads is making a statement to teams in 1A that it should squarely be on the radar as a state championship contender.

The Eagles are unbeaten so far, sporting a glossy 8-0 record, including a 14-0 trouncing of Wiley on Wednesday. Up next, Eads will visit the Evangel Christian Academy (4-3) at noon, Saturday at El Pomar Scheels Field.

The team leader offensively for Eads is Spencer Uhland. The senior has a salty .684 average with one home run and 14 RBIs. He had two hits and two RBIs in the victory over Wiley.

Case Nelson (.417) and Shane Winder (.400) are also providing some offense punch for the Eagles.

Nelson has been the workhorse on the mound for Eads with a 5-0 record and a 0.33 ERA.

Class 3A

Brush (6-3) at Eaton (9-2), 4 p.m., Thursday

Perennial powerhouse Eaton is coming off a 13-11 slugfest win over Fort Morgan on Wednesday. Cooper Nider was the star for the Reds in that game collecting two hits and knocking in four runs.

The Reds Jackson Denooy is a key cog for his team as well with a team-best .545 batting average.

Gunnar Garrison also has a 4-0 record on the mound for the Reds.

Brush will counter at the plate with Landon Mesch (.469) and Percy Odle (.467). Odle also has a 2-0 record on the mound.

This will be a good test for Eaton and things will not get any easier for the squad as it travels to take on Sterling (4-1) on April 16.

Class 2A

Forge Christian (5-2) at Kent Denver (8-2), 4:15 p.m., Thursday

This is a key game for Forge Christian as the Fury meets up with a solid 3A team in Kent Denver. A win by FC will certainly help in the all-important RPI rankings.

After a 3-2 loss to Peak to Peak on April 2, FC bounced back by hammering Kent Denver 13-0 on April 8. Now the Fury has a chance to make it two wins in a row over Kent.

Forge is paced at the plate by Burke Jasa (.556), Ben McLean (.550) and Sam Buerck (.500). Forge’s top pitcher has been Brock Wycoff, and he has compiled a 3-0 record.

Kent Denver’s offense is fueled by Jack Wilson who has a .533 batting average. Will Goldmanis is chipping in a .486 batting average, one home run and 13 RBIs for Kent.

Class 1A

McClave (8-2) at Holly (4-6), 10 a.m., (DH), Friday

The Cardinals have a 2-2 record in their last four games. McClave will try to find some consistency when it locks up with Holly for a doubleheader.

The Cardinals are led by freshman Ryan Steinbrunn, who has a .609 batting average with 12 RBIs. Holly will counter with Devin Eaton. The senior has a sizzling .739 batting average with seven RBIs and two triples.
