With this article, I complete the circuit of state meet previews. It’s possible I’ll update one or more of the articles over the next 10 days, but that decision will wait on developments I can’t see at this time.
I should start off this article by apologizing that I have no usable cover photo for 1A Boys. I hope to have an opportunity to remedy that situation later in the season, but we’re not there yet.
I’ll begin, as I’ve begun other recent articles, with a look at what we get if we score the current state of the 1A Boys rankings as the state meet. A brief discussion of where 1A Boys are headed will follow that.

I doubt it comes as a surprise to anyone, but Heritage Christian Academy comes out on top of the pile here—and by no trivial amount. The Eagles are nowhere more dominant than in the distance events, but they are dominant more or less across the board. Not that anyone expects them to, but they could experience several lapses at state and still win the state meet.
At this point, Cheyenne Wells comes out a solid second, with Cheraw and Haxtun taking up the next two places. There’s reason to believe all three of these teams will struggle to hold their rankings in both individual sprint events and in sprint relays. With limited counts of bodies, there will have to be some choosing of spots. Usually, it’s the relays that tend to give a little. Some teams can cover better than others, but all 1A teams with state-qualifying sprint talent take a hit here.
The same three teams still figure in the hunt for second place, but much will depend on how the relays go for these teams. As is often the case in 1A, several athletes will be four-eventing, but nobody is allowed to venture beyond that fourth event.
State events that are most likely to see deviations from the ranked order at or near the top include the 100, 400, long jump, and triple jump. The discus holds some potential to join these events, and especially so as the discus has a tendency to be something of a fickle event to begin with. How these five events go should have a substantial bearing on how the second, third, and fourth team places play out.
