After working through a couple of weeks with several lopsided results, Class 1A finally sees some to the top teams in the division start to square off. The main feature on tap is #3 Meeker at #9 Hotchkiss as that winner should land with the top spot in the Western Slope chase. #4 Florence also invades #9 Peyton in a second top 10 battle on the schedule. Three top 10 matchups can be found in Class 2A this week and two of them could end up determining the best record in two conferences. #2 Delta and #8 Woodland Park square off for the likely top spot in the Western division while #3 Sterling can move very close to the best mark in the Patriot East as they meet #5 Platte Valley. The third battle pits #9 University and #10 Severance as both clubs continue working to a potential post-season bid. PHOTO IS PROVIDED BY DANIELLE BYNUM.
Leading off our 3A Preview in week three is another important game inside the Northern conference. At the start of the year, we projected that Roosevelt, Mead and Fort Morgan would battle for the best record. Game one involving the three was last week as Roosevelt nipped Mead in overtime and game two is set for this week as #5 Mead meets #6 Fort Morgan. PHOTO BY PAUL DINEEN.
It's probably the best schedule to date in Class 5A as our preview looks at three top 10 clashes. The outcomes of course, will impact all the various polls next week but more importantly start the process of sorting out which clubs will reach the playoffs. #1 Cherry Creek is challenged by #8 Grandview, #4 Pomona faces #6 Ralston Valley and #7 Regis squares off against #10 Legend.
The top 10 schedule for week three includes several matchups that will help sort out the playoff picture in almost every division. A total of 13 games are on the agenda featuring two ranked clubs squaring off. Three apiece can be found in Class 5A, 2A and six man this week.
As we make new playoff projections this week, there are still quite a few question marks in six and eight man football but the post-season field seems very clear in both Classes 1A and 2A.
Two weeks of the regular season are behind us and we continue to see the post-season picture clear up a bit in Classes 3A, 4A and 5A. We place results from the past week into the mix and come up with a fresh look at which teams will head to the playoffs at seasons end.
