Kit Carson is back, looking for a second consecutive title. While the Wildcats may be the prohibitive favorite, the field chasing them has a number of teams with big game pedigrees. The following 1A girls’ state tournament team capsules are listed in bracket order.

 

#1 KIT CARSON WILDCATS (22-0)

COACH:  Sara Crawford

STATE TITLES:  2017

LEAGUE:  Won High Plains crown (5-0)

DISTRICT FINALS:  Beat Eads 54-19

REGIONALS:  Beat South Baca 52-22

STREAK:  Won 49

RECORD VS STATE TEAMS:  3-0 / beat Holly twice 64-33 and 64-37, beat Fleming 72-28

RPI:  1st

TEAM NOTES:  Won 95 of last 97 games since start of 2014-15 season. Only seven games decided by fewer than 30 points. Closest margin of victory: 24 (Eads and Kiowa). Won fourth straight Lamar Holiday Tournament title. Won 2017 Class 1A volleyball title.

TEAM NOTES:  Won 12 of last 15 games. Won three of four games decided by single digits. Won Front Range Baptist tournament title. Third straight appearance. Lost consolation championship in 2016 and lost third place in 2017.
