Some big league games highlight the slate of top-10 Class 2A football teams in action Week 8. Each and Basalt each take on ranked foes with the end of the regular season just a couple weeks away.

Englewood at (1) The Classical Academy
TCA has looked very much like the team to beat in 2A as it has been dominant all season. The Titans rolled to a 51-0 win at Denver West last week behind 100-yard rushing games from Riley Romine and Kaden Rusin. The defense was just as dominant as it forced six turnovers, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries.
The Pirates sit at 4-2 and at No. 22 in the CHSAA selection and seeding index. This might make them desperate for the remainder of the regular season and desperate teams can sometimes do incredible things.
(10) Berthoud at (3) Eaton
Since its Week 1 loss to TCA, Eaton has looked like a wrecking ball to every opponent it has seen. It improved to 2-0 in league play last week with a 52-6 win over Fort Lupton. Walker Martin threw for 192 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Two of those touchdown passes ended up in the hands of Zac Grable.
Berthoud was down 14-0 early against Faith Christian but battled back to get a 21-14 win. Alex Larson had a day on the ground with 162 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Skyler Streicher also threw for two touchdowns. Both players will have to be at their best in this top-10 showdown.
(4) Basalt at (8) Moffat County
The Longhorns have been on a roll this season as they remain one of three undefeated teams in the classification. In last week’s win over Rifle, Cooper Crawford rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown. The defense also came up big in the 22-7 win as Taylor Hays grabbed an interception and Dylan Madden recovered a fumble.
Moffat County rolled to a 48-6 win over Coal Ridge behind Evan Atkin’s 216 rushing yards and three scores. Cort Murphy and Evan Beaver each showed off their arm as they both threw for over 100 yards and each had a passing touchdown.
Fort Lupton at (5) The Academy
The Wildcats had a strong showing in Steamboat Springs and they scored 10 total touchdowns on offense. Isaiah Eliot led the way with two rushing touchdowns and four passing touchdowns. Derrek Real led the receiving effort with 162 yards and two scores.
Fort Lupton is heading into the game hoping to snap its two-game losing streak.
Woodland Park at (6) Florence (Saturday)
This game could decide the League 7 title as both squads have looked strong early in league play. The Huskies are off a 60-0 win over Manitou Springs where Levi Paxton rushed for 207 yards and three scores.
Woodland Park took La Junta to overtime and grabbed a 14-6 win over the Tigers. Bryce Broker threw for a touchdown and even rushed for a touchdown despite totaling -3 rushing yards on the night.
Denver West at (7) Elizabeth (Thursday)
The Cardinals put together a solid ground game against Kent Denver last week to get a 38-14 win. Ethan Stone ran for 105 yards and Jason Weber rushed for two touchdowns.
Pagosa Springs at (9) Montezuma-Cortez
The Panther squeaked out a win over Bayfield last week to improve to 2-0 in league play.
