UPDATE: New RPI standings were issued at 9:15pm Saturday night but did not affect our projections below.
Since RPI numbers have been updated following the finish of the 2A girls’ basketball district tournaments, we can now start projecting regional tournament brackets. The eight district champions earn the right to play at home and will be seeded one through eight based on RPI. The remaining qualifiers will then be seeded 9-32 with teams slotted from 25-32 possibly moved for travel concerns.
Our projections are based on RPI standings posted at 8:15pm on February 29th. Official pairings will be announced on Sunday by CHSAA. Also note that the bracket will be reseeded before state once the eight qualifiers are determined. At that time, more criteria other than RPI can be used to place teams in the bracket.
The first step in laying out the bracket is determining the order of the eight district champions.
- Holyoke
- Limon
- Meeker
- Heritage Christian
- Rye
- Del Norte
- Simla
- Ignacio
Now we list the remaining qualifiers from across the various districts. District 5 sends five teams and District 3 sends three with the remaining brackets qualifying their top four. We do not list the district champions here but place teams in order of district finish.
Other Qualifiers
- District 1: Sanford, Center, Sargent
- District 2: Yuma, Wray, Sedgwick County
- District 3: Telluride, Mancos
- District 4: Denver Christian, Byers, Lotus School
- District 5: Hotchkiss, Soroco, Hayden, West Grand
- District 6: Rocky Ford, Holly, Swink
- District 7: Dawson, Gilpin County, Loveland Classical
- District 8: Colorado Springs School, Peyton, Calhan

We do not see a conference conflict in the opening round but we believe the committee would try to find a closer regional for both Telluride and Mancos. Mancos to Holyoke and Telluride to Limon is probably not in the best travel interest so we would look for some shuffling in the bottom eight clubs (25-32). There are several possibilities for movement so we won’t try to layout the different scenarios.
