For the second consecutive season, Class 2A is utilizing a 32-team regional bracket to determine the eight state tournament teams. Regional qualifiers are determined through district tournaments with six of the eight brackets advancing their top four teams. The exceptions are District 3, which sends their top three clubs, and District 5 which advances their top five.
District champions earn the right to play at home in the regional round and once determined, the eight teams are seeded 1-8 based on RPI. The remaining qualifiers are then placed in the bracket based on RPI. Changes can be made to avoid district pairings in round one and teams placed 25-32 by RPI may be moved up or down for geography and travel concerns.
The state tournament bracket will be reseeded once the eight regional champions are determined.
The first step in laying our bracket involves picking the qualifiers from each district. Let’s start with the District champs and these are the eight teams that we project will grab championships.
- District 1:Â Sanford
- District 2:Â Yuma
- District 3:Â Mancos
- District 4:Â Byers
- District 5:Â Vail Christian
- District 6:Â Holly
- District 7:Â Highland
- District 8:Â Simla
These teams will be seeded in the bracket based on RPI and using numbers posted on January 27th, the order would be Holly, Highland, Yuma, Byers, Simla, Mancos, Sanford, Vail Christian.
Next up is determining the other qualifiers from each district. Again District 3 gets three teams in and District 5 earns five spots and the remaining brackets each send their top four overall. We list the teams in no particular order as after the district championships, the order of finish does not play a major role in placing teams in the bracket.
- District 1:Â Sargent, Del Norte, Center
- District 2:Â Wray, Sedgwick County, Akron
- District 3:Â Ignacio, Ridgway
- District 4:Â Limon, Denver Christian, Clear Creek
- District 5:Â Paonia, Plateau Valley, West Grand, Meeker
- District 6:Â Fowler, Rocky Ford, Hoehne
- District 7:Â Heritage Christian, Dawson, Dayspring Christian
- District 8:Â Peyton, Dolores Huerta, Colorado Springs School
The seed order based on RPI from Sunday
- Fowler
- Limon
- Denver Christian
- Heritage Christian
- Peyton
- Sargent
- Sedgwick County
- Del Norte
- Rocky Ford
- Paonia
- Dolores Huerta
- Dayspring Christian
- Plateau Valley
- Wray
- Colorado Springs School
- Dawson
- Ridgway
- Hoehne
- Akron

So now that we have our list of 32 qualifiers, we place them in the bracket for a two-day tournament. Winners of the eight regional tournaments advance to state where they will be reseeded the Sunday before the actual event. We do not move teams in the bracket as we rely on a true seed for the 32-teams.
