RPI numbers for Class 2A boys’ basketball were updated overnight and with all the games from the district weekend entered into the system, we have an excellent idea of how the regional bracket will be laid out. We expect official pairings later this morning or early afternoon but here’s a quick glance at how the pairings may end up.
First up is placing the district champions in order by RPI.
- Holly
- Yuma
- Highland
- Limon
- Sanford
- Mancos
- Simla
- Vail Christian
Those eight teams will serve as hosts for regional tournaments this weekend (Friday-Saturday) and will be paired with three other teams for eight four-team brackets.
The remaining qualifiers to the bracket were decided by results from district tournaments and they are again placed in order by RPI.
- Fowler
- Byers
- Heritage Christian
- Denver Christian
- Rocky Ford
- Del Norte
- Peyton
- Dayspring Christian
- Sargent
- John Mall
- Sedgwick County
- Wray
- Plateau Valley
- Akron
- Paonia
- Clear Creek
- Dolores Huerta Prep
- Telluride
- Meeker
- Dolores
- West Grand
- Center
- Thomas MacLaren
- Lyons
NOTE: There is one issue that could affect the final pairings and that’s dealing with a computer issue involving the regular season finale between Sedgwick County and Caliche (1A). That game has not been entered into the MaxPreps system yet and while coaches spent most of Sunday trying to do so, a glitch within the MaxPreps is preventing that from happening. Until that game is entered into RPI, the standings will not be made official. And as a result, official pairings won’t be released until the issue is resolved. It’s not a factor in the 2A Girls pairings as the contest is entered and calculated.
The 32-teams would then be placed in the bracket based on the RPI standings. And once regional tournament champions are crowned, the pairings would then be reseeded before the start of the state tournament on March 7th.

The bracket lays out nicely in regards to conference matchups as the first round we have in place does not include matchups of district/league opponents. Teams seeded 25-32 could be moved to help travel and geography but again the bracket is in good shape there. One possibility for a move is to have Telluride move but one spot down (Meeker) pairs them with league rival Mancos and one spot up (DH Prep) creates a situation where DH Prep would be paired with conference rival Simla. So right now, we expect the bracket to be in good shape through solid use of RPI.
Again this is for projection purposes only ahead of the official pairings release later on Monday.
