Regional wrestling tournaments are on tap this week and Tim Yount and others with ON THE MAT has provided a list of ranked wrestlers and where they’re headed this weekend.  We list by weight division at Class 2A regional tournaments below.
Four regional wrestling tournaments are on tap this Friday and Saturday with the top four wrestlers in each weight at each regional advance to the state tournament.  The state event is again set for the Pepsi Center February 15-17th.
Simply put, the Region One bracket is loaded.  Six of the 14 #1 ranked wrestlers in Colorado will compete there and the 220-pound division is the deepest of any bracket in any class.  The top five ranked wrestlers in the weight are in the region which means one will not make the state tournament.
The top three ranked wrestlers will compete in both 120 and 138-pound divisions.  Seven of the top 15 can be found at 132 and six of the top 15 will wrestler at both 170 and 195.
Four number one wrestlers are headed to the Region Two tournament, but otherwise there is not much depth there.  Four of the top 10 will compete at 106 and three of the top six square off at 195.
Despite having only one top ranked wrestler, the Region Three should be very competitive.  Three of the top six wrestlers are found at both 113 and 132.  Four of the top eight and six of the top 15 are found at 126-pounds.  Four of the top nine compete at 160 and five of the top eight are involved at 145.  At 170-pounds, five of the top 10 wrestlers will battle it out.
In Region Four, one top ranked wrestler is in the field.  The best brackets there appear to be 113 and 285.  At 113, numbers two and three are in the field and at 285, the first, second and fourth ranked wrestlers collide.  Two of the top five compete at both 126 and 160 and three of the top nine face off at 145.  The 170-pound class is void of a ranked wrestler and is the only bracket statewide in all four classes that does not include a competitor in the top 15.
Later this week, Colorado Preps will provide links to live results at each of the four regional tournaments in Class 5A.  The overall pairings include just a single #1 ranked wrestler (170).
