Due to COVID guidelines and a shortened season, district tournaments won’t be played in Class 3A-2A-1A girls’ basketball this year so playoff teams will be selected through new criteria this year. League champions earn automatic bids with the rest of the field chosen at-large through a formula combining polls from CHSAA, RPI, Packard and MaxPreps. For the first time this season, Colorado Preps has combined those rankings to give our readers a look at which teams are in good shape for a post-season berth and which still have some work to do.
For our rankings, teams are awarded one point for each first place vote, two for second and so through on through the top 24 in each class. Teams not ranked in the top 24 of a service are given 25 points for that poll to balance out the numbers. Please note these standings are highly unofficial as CHSAA uses a percentage basis to develop their overall rankings at the end of the season. We simply award a team points based on their individual standing in the respective polls.
24 teams qualify for the playoffs in each of the three classes this year. State brackets will be released on Monday March 8th with first round games set to start the next day. The top eight seeds in each bracket earn first round byes. We list every team that reached the top 24 in any of the four polls below.
Also note that teams with fewer than four games are not ranked by MaxPreps so that could change future polls as programs continue to make up some early games lost to COVID or weather.
