A couple of top-10 games highlight the Class 3A football slate. Notably, Mead heads to Durango and Roosevelt travels to Holy Family.

(1) Roosevelt at (7) Holy Family

Roosevelt has yet to show why it shouldn’t be considered the top team in all of 3A. Last week, the Roughriders left Highlands Ranch with a 25-22 win over the 5A Falcons. They got the win by running the ball. Ryan Doucette and Xavier Ramirez each ran for over 115 yards and each scored a touchdown. Bronco Hartson also scored a rushing touchdown.

A rough loss to Broomfield before the bye week is well behind Holy Family. The Tigers got a 45-12 win over Mountain View. Rylan Cooney threw for 239 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Chase McNaughton rushed for 116 yards in the win.

(4A 8) Montrose at (2) Lutheran

Montrose got off to a slow start to the season but seems to have found some momentum with wins over Erie and Palisade. The Red Hawks will try and sustain that momentum against one of 3A’s best teams.

The Lions made quite a statement with a 56-27 win over Pueblo East last week. Ryken Daugaard threw for 314 yards and four touchdowns in the win while Ryan Kenny ran for 251 yards and three scores. They’ll try to once again put that explosive offense on display this week.

(10) Mead at (3) Durango

The Demons are coming off their first game and win against a Colorado team. They beat Grand Junction Central 49-14 behind Jeric Baruch’s 114 rushing yards and three overall rushing touchdowns for the team. Perhaps what was most impressive was the defensive effort as Durango allowed just 71 yards of total offense. That effort could go a long way in topping the Mavericks.

Mead is coming off a much-needed bye. A tough schedule has the Mavericks riding a two-game losing streak ahead of this long road trip. They’ll try to rely heavily on Danny Brewington who is averaging 142 rushing yards per game and has a team-high four rushing touchdowns.

Rangeview at (5) Northridge (Saturday)

Northridge has emerged as a very good team and has to wait until Saturday to try and move to 5-0 on the year. In last week’s win over Greeley West, Damon West ran the ball just 11 times but scored five rushing touchdowns.

(6) Resurrection Christian at St. John XXIII (Tex.) (Saturday)

The Cougars head to Texas to take on their third out-of-state opponent in a row. In last week’s win over Buffalo (Wyo.) Hunter Hansen ran for 54 yards and a touchdown. Rez totaled just 122 yards of offense, but it was all they needed to get the win.

(7) Pueblo East vs. Pueblo South

The 47th edition of the Cannon Game has Pueblo East looking to reclaim the Cannon for the first time since 2018. The Eagles are coming off a tough loss to Lutheran but sophomore quarterback Zayden Stevens has looked solid all year. He has thrown for 607 yards and five touchdowns and adds 129 total rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns to his stat line.

The Colts have had a rough start to the season and most recently suffered a 49-0 loss to Green Mountain. Coach Ryan Goddard is hoping that the bye week helped South fix some of the woes that have been ailing the team.

Severance at (9) Evergreen

The Silver Knights fell out of the CHSAANow.com rankings after a loss last week and it was Evergreen who joined the crop as a result. In a win over Discovery Canyon, Cougars quarterback Tommy Poholsky threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns. His 10 total passing touchdowns are tied with Lutheran’s Daugaard for most in 3A.
