Pueblo East is looking more like the team that rattled off three straight Class 3A state titles in a row. That status will be put to the test as the Eagles face their toughest test of the season as Lutheran heads to town.

Eight of the top 10 teams in the CHSAANow.com football rankings are in action this week with seven of those matchups being featured here.

(1) Roosevelt at Highlands Ranch

Xavier Ramirez is rushing for 123 yards per game and has found the end zone six times as the top-ranked 3A Roughriders remain undefeated. They’ll face a solid 5A test in Highlands Ranch who had Eaglecrest on the ropes in Week 3 and beat Fountain-Fort Carson in Week 2.

For the Falcons, Brady Shuford is second in all of 5A with six rushing touchdowns.

(2) Lutheran at (7) Pueblo East (Thursday)

The Lions bounced back from a season-opening loss with wins over ranked teams in Mead and Discovery Canyon. Quarterback Ryken Daugaard has thrown for 585 yards and six touchdowns in 2022.

He’ll be tasked with out dueling East quarterback Zayden Stevens who has thrown for 607 yards and five scores.

(3) Durango at Grand Junction Central

The Demons take on their first in-state opponent as they hit the road to face Grand Junction Central. Sitting at 2-1 after facing three New Mexico teams, the Demons have emerged as a run-heavy squad. Eric Brauch and Zach Haber have each rushed for over 220 yards and have combined to score eight touchdowns.

After a close loss to Fruita Monument to open the season, the Warriors have gotten wins over Palisade and Grand Junction.

(4) Green Mountain at Pueblo South

As a team, the Rams have rushed for 777 yards this year and it has been successful as they sit at 3-0. Zach Wallace is the leading rusher with 228 yards. George Soppe has provided a spark on defense with three forced turnovers.

After losses to Pueblo County and Discovery Canyon, the Colts are in need of a win and this would be a big one to get with league play right around the corner.

(5) Northridge at Greeley West

Defense is the name of the game for the Grizzlies. They have a total of nine interceptions already with Jayden Marquez leading the way with three. Isaac Kness adds two and four other players have one.

Spartans quarterback Julian Salas will likely lean on his run game as he has thrown six interceptions this season which could make for a long night if Northridge jumps out to a big lead.

Mountain View at (9) Holy Family

The Tigers are coming off a lopsided loss to Broomfield two weeks ago and are ready to make that blowout a distant memory. Rylan Cooney and Chase McNaughton have maintained a good balance with the offense thus far. Cooney has thrown for 366 yards and two touchdowns while McNaughton has rushed for 171 yards and a score.

This will be a good game for the Tigers to get back in rhythm as they face No. 1 Roosevelt in Week 5.
