Class 5A wrestlers head to regional tournaments this Friday and Saturday at four different locations. The top four in each weight from each tournament advance to the state meet which opens a week from Thursday in Denver. With information provided by Tim Yount of On the Mat, Colorado Preps breaks down where the top 10 wrestlers in each weight are headed.
As expected, Pomona dominates the West region as the Panthers have 13 wrestlers in the top 10. The only weight the Panthers do not have a top 10 competitor is 285. Their list includes a whopping four top ranked kids so the Panthers should roll to the regional crown with an impressive team total in points.
Depth wise, the West region has four top 10 wrestlers competing in three different weights; 113, 160 and 285.
Maybe the best overall bracket can be found at 112 pounds in the North regional. The top three wrestlers in the state as ranked by On the Mat are competing there. A fourth top 10 wrestler is also in that field.
In the South bracket, four top 10 wrestlers compete at five different weights; 120, 126, 152, 182 and 195. Two more such brackets are found in the East region at 220 and 285 pounds.
