The spring baseball season is coming down the homestretch to crown state champions in Class 3A, 2A and 1A.

In 3A and 24 32 teams qualify for the regional tournament based on the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index. League champions not in the top 32 will receive an automatic qualifying position (minimum 5 teams in a league for automatic berth). The eight teams with the highest seeding in the Index host regionals, the remaining 24 teams will then be seeded by the CHSAA metric.

The 2A and 3A postseasons will begin with Regionals on May 16-17. Games 1-11 of the state championships will take place Friday and Saturday, May 23-24, with Games 12-15 on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31.

The 2025 baseball regional championship brackets for 2A, and 3A, are set to be seeded and released on May 14 by the Colorado State High School Activities Association office.

Meanwhile in 1A, the regional/state bracket has been trimmed down to 16 teams, with play beginning this weekend.

The first and second round games will be played on May 10 with the semifinals and championship games being played on May 15 at Keli McGregor Field at All-Star Park in Lakewood.

With drama amping up in the three classes here are some players who have been starring on the diamond.

ARVADA AIMS TO STAY IN CLASS 3A POSTSEASON MIX: Arvada (10-7) is clinging to the No. 30 spot in the 3A rankings and is coming off back-to-back losses to Alameda (11-4) and Sterling (15-5).

Now Arvada has a chance to re-beef up its resume by defeating Mitchell (3-15) and Aurora Central (7-10) on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

Cameron Henderson (.700) and Harley Medina (.409) fuel the Bulldogs offensively. Medina has also thrown a team-high 33.1 innings this season.

FORGE CHRISTIAN EYES TOP SEED IN 2A: Forge Christian is sitting in the No. 1 spot in the 2A rankings.

The Fury has an 18-2 season record and have won 14 games in a row since a 3-2 loss to Peak to Peak on April 2.

FC will try and continue its winning ways when it takes on The Academy (6-15) at 3 p.m., Thursday and then will venture to battle Platte Valley (13-8) at 3:30 p.m., Friday.

Forge Christian is led by Ben McLean (.468), Burke Jasa (.439) and Asher Garner (.400). Pitcher Bryce Wycoff has a 6-0 record with a 0.97 ERA.

NUCLA LOOKS TO MAKE SOME POSTSEASON NOISE: The Nucla Mustangs will enter the 16-team 1A state tournament as the No. 5 seed. Nucla (12-8) faces No. 12 Rocky Mountain Lutheran (9-6) at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The winner of Nucla-Rocky Mountain Lutheran moves on to clash with the winner between regional host Sima (14-4), the No. 4 seed and No. 13 La Veta (13-5) at 10 a.m. Saturday. The regional championship is at 4:30 p.m.

Nucla heads into this game on a four-game winning streak. The Mustangs are paced by Brycen Rummel (.543) and Josh Platt (.523). On the mound, Rummel and Jackson McCabe are sporting 4-1 records.

Class 3A

Resurrection Christian (13-6) at Sterling (11-4), 4 p.m., Thursday

This is a big game with the Class 3A 32-team regional tournament looming on May 14. RC is No. 4 in the RPI rankings, while Sterling is No. 7.

RC is paced by Charley Wilson (.431) and Brayden MacAlmon (.411). RC has a 1-2 record in its last three games, including a 5-3 loss to Colorado Academy on May 3.

Sterling, meanwhile, has won three games in a row. The Tigers have a talented offense led by Dayten DiOrio (.435) and Memphis Dempcy (.411).

Whatever team gets this win will solidify itself in the Top 5 in the RPI rankings.

Class 2A

Wray (9-10) at Limon (12-9), 10 a.m., Saturday

Wray is trying to solidify its spot in the 32-team postseason bracket. Wray sits No. 25 in the rankings and has a chance to move up as perennial power Limon sits in the No. 10 spot.

Wray put itself in playoff position by winning five games in a row. The Eagles offense is led by Grady Godsey (.426), Brodie Riggleman (.417) and Broderick Kite (.326). Brooks Scherrer (.400) and Brody Scherrer (.386) fuel the Badgers.

Limon is fresh off a 15-0 win over St. Mary’s on Wednesday. That win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Badgers.

Class 1A

No. 7 Merino (15-6) vs. No. 10 Cheyenne Wells (10-7), 11:30 a.m., Saturday at Eads

Probably the most intriguing match-up in the Round of 16 is Merino vs. Cheyenne Wells.

Merino is a perennial state power in nearly every sport and the Rams are the reigning 1A state champs.

Caleb Deines (.529) and Coen Schmidt (.507) set the table for Merino’s offense. Josiah Mackintosh (.474) also has been a workhorse on the mound for Merino. CW counters with Trey Scheler (.489) and Ethen Garay (.458). Bryson Hyle has been CW’s main pitcher this season.

The winner of the Merino-Cheyenne Wells clash moves on to face the victor between No. 2-seed Eads (18-0) and Elbert (7-8). The game between the winners is at 4:30 p.m., Saturday.
