Another good weekend of football is in the books and here at Colorado Preps we looked at every result and came up with our thoughts on the best three wins in each class.

CLASS 5A

  • Smoky Hill:  rallied past Boulder to stay unbeaten in the Metro 10 and coupled with the loss by Denver East, the Buffs are now alone atop the standings.
  • Legend:  The Titans won maybe the best game in Class 5A as they held off Fountain Fort Carson 23-21 to keep pace with #6 Regis in the Southern division
  • Grandview:  Won a top seven battle with Eaglecrest (14-11) to open the rugged Metro East schedule with a big win.  Wolves also avenged a one point loss to the Raptors a year ago where they gave up a 21-point fourth quarter lead

CLASS 4A

  • Vista Peak:  The Bison totaled seven touchdowns in a big win over Dakota Ridge.  Both teams were unbeaten going in with Vista Peak getting to 5-0 for the first time in school history
  • Pine Creek:  The Eagles were very impressive in winning the battle of #1 teams over Palmer Ridge (3A) 49-28
  • Montrose:  The Indians grabbed the mythical Western Slope trophy by beating Fruita Monument 21-14.  The win capped off a perfect 5-0 non-conference mark where the Indians topped Grand Junction, Grand Junction Central, Durango and Palisade

CLASS 3A

  • Northridge:  The Grizzlies entered the season with just three combined wins in the last two seasons but moved to 4-1 with a win over Lincoln.  They’re trying for their first winning season since 2015
  • Evergreen:  The Cougars had just one win on the season before stunning Palisade 19-17 last Friday.  The win kept them in the playoff chase as it bumped them to 18th in the RPI standings
  • Harrison:  The Panthers moved to 4-1 by holding off Pueblo County 21-14 in overtime in what could have been the best game of the weekend across the division

CLASS 2A

  • Bayfield:  After getting blown out by Durango 55-0 in week five, the Wolverines regrouped to score a very important win at Alamosa.  The win could get Bayfield to the IML title as the remaining league members have just two combined wins
  • Eaton:  The Reds hope to challenge Resurrection Christian for the Patriot West championship and kept those chances very much alive with a hard fought 25-22 decision over improved University
  • Classical Academy:  Maybe this is the year the Titans finally get over the hump and land the Tri Peaks title.  They opened the league slate by downing Lamar.  It wasn’t easy as the Titans gave up a 21-0 lead before regrouping with a strong second half.

CLASS 1A

  • Hotchkiss:  The Bulldogs took a major step to a top two finish in the Western Slope with a win over Paonia.  It was their first win over the Eagles since 2012 as they ended a six game losing streak
  • Wray:  The Eagles earned their first win over Burlington since 2014 and likely secured a top three finish in the North Central which typically is good enough to make the playoffs
  • Rocky Ford:  With Crowley County moving to eight man next year, this could be the final matchup for the local rivals.  The Meloneers rallied from a halftime deficit to post the win and will now likely challenge Peyton for the Santa Fe crown

EIGHT MAN

  • Fowler:  It was an eye opening win for the Grizzlies as they rolled a very good Hoehne club 50-8.  The Grizzlies have now beaten Hoehne and Holly and should have little trouble finishing the regular season at 9-0
  • West Grand:  Coming off a tough loss to Vail Christian in week five, the Mustangs picked up a quality win over Rangely.  Soroco is 5-0 but the win could leave West Grand no worse than second in the conference
  • Front Range Christian:  The big win over Denver Christian sets up a likely league championship showdown with Elbert next week.  Both teams are unbeaten in the Central

SIX MAN

  • Kit Carson:  In a battle of unbeaten clubs, Kit Carson outscored Cheyenne Wells 51-43 to take over sole possession of the Southeast lead.  The win also kept the Wildcats in line for the top overall playoff seed.
  • Hanover:  The Hornets stayed alive for the Central championship by edging Edison.  The win kept Hanover one game back of league leading Deer Trail and they challenge the Eagles next week
  • Briggsdale:  The win over Peetz kept the Falcons tied for second with North Park and Prairie in the North race.  With games still remaining against North Park and first place Fleming, the Falcons still have plenty of work to be done
