It’s the final day of January and we conclude the month with another rundown of composite boys basketball rankings. We take votes from four different sources; MaxPreps, RPI, CHSAA and Packard, to develop an overall top 10. Teams are given 10 points for each first place vote, nine for a second place vote, eight for third and so on through each set of rankings. Teams that receive 40 points are considered a unanimous number one pick for that classification. We list every team that received a vote.
The tightest race is found in Class 1A where DeBeque and Kit Carson share the top spot with 37 points. Kit Carson drew top marks from RPI and MaxPreps while DeBeque was number one in the CHSAA coaches poll. Sangre De Cristo (31) is third and received the fourth number one vote.
Class 2A features the biggest gap between numbers one and two. Highland is the unanimous choice as they earned all four first place votes. Spots two through four are divided by just three points overall but second place Sanford trails Highland by a whopping 11 points.
Resurrection Christian (3A) and Rangeview (5A) are two other unanimous picks at number one. Mead and Cheyenne Mountain split the four first place votes in Class 4A but the Mavericks have better support overall and took the top spot with 38 points overall.
