A tremendous schedule in Class 2A headlines the Saturday top 10 boys’ basketball slated. Three top 10 matchups are found in that class including the likely Mile High championship game between #2 Denver Christian and #8 Highland (3A). Both teams are unbeaten and virtually unchallenged in conference play thus far.
The other two contests are non-league battles that will help teams boost RPI rankings. #9 Peyton continues a strong schedule as they host top ranked Yuma. The Panthers already have losses to Limon, Denver Christian, Sanford and Colorado Springs Christian and that tough slate has kept them in the rankings despite the 7-4 overall record. Limon is playing their third game in four days. They barely survived Simla on Wednesday (29-27) but then played very well in blowing past #3 Wray (55-31) on Friday. For Merino, this is their fifth game against a 2A rival and they have five more on the February schedule.
Also in 2A is a very important matchup in the Western Slope between #7 Vail Mountain and Meeker. Both teams are one game back of Vail Christian in the league standings so the winner will stand alone in second place.
Class 3A is not far behind in attractive pairings as #1 Sterling heads to Faith Christian. The Eagles are unranked but coming off a thrilling and important Metro league win against #6 Kent Denver on Friday night. Sterling sits at 12-1 overall after beating Brush and have not lost to a Colorado opponent. #4 Aspen may face their most difficult league test against Grand Valley today but the Skiers go in at 10-0.
In Class 5A, Smoky Hill and Eaglecrest battle for the outright lead in the Centennial while tradition rich programs Denver East and Regis collide in a solid non-conference contest.
Below is the entire schedule for top 10 teams. We’ll update scores throughout the night and then below the rankings, update some games that impact league championship races. Final scores can be sent to Colorado Preps by text at 970.380.7737.
