There’s a very good schedule of boys’ basketball games in Classes 4A and 5A this week.  But instead of providing a simple list of games, Colorado Preps breaks it down by conference based on league standings entering the week.

More in-depth coverage on each game will be provided with our daily reports throughout the week.

CLASS 4A

CS METRO NORTH:  Elizabeth, Sand Creek and Falcon (all 2-0) have already gained a two-game separation on the rest of the conference.  Elizabeth faces the other two league leaders this week so they have the most important stretch.  The Cards welcome Falcon on Wednesday and then visit Sand Creek on Friday.

CS METRO SOUTH:  Canon City (2-0) is the lone league unbeaten at this point as the Tigers have a one game edge on Palmer, Harrison, Coronado and Mesa Ridge.  Canon City goes to Harrison on Friday for the most important matchup.

JEFFCO:  Wheat Ridge and Green Mountain have won their first three league games and share first place with Evergreen (2-0).  Littleton and D’Evelyn are 1-1 and Golden (1-2) could still impact the top three spots.  Green Mountain can gain control of the league chase as they meet both co-leaders this week.  It starts with a home game against Evergreen on Wednesday and then two days later, the Rams visit Wheat Ridge.  Golden and Wheat Ridge also collide on Wednesday.

LONGS PEAK:  It’s very early in this chase with each team playing just one game.  Winners in round one were Thompson Valley, Roosevelt, Frederick, Mountain View and Severance.  No other league team is above five hundred for the season either.  The leaders square off three times this week with Thompson Valley going to Frederick and Mountain View at Severance on Tuesday.  Thompson Valley and Mountain View also face off on Thursday.

WESTERN SLOPE:  Steamboat Springs (2-0) and Summit (3-0) are the early unbeatens with Palisade and Eagle Valley both 1-1.  Summit faces both third place teams as the Tigers visit Palisade on Friday and then host Eagle Valley on Saturday.  Tuesday night, Steamboat Springs heads to Eagle Valley.

COLORADO:  Quite a bit of league activity already as Eagle Ridge Academy (3-0) has a one game edge on Aurora Central, Englewood, Fort Lupton and Arvada.  Eagle Ridge gets tested twice this week as they visit high scoring Englewood on Tuesday and then host Aurora Central on Saturday.  In between is another important conference game between Englewood and Fort Lupton.

NORTHERN:  Likely the deepest league across Class 4A as Longmont, Windsor, Mead and Erie all enter the week unbeaten in league and overall.  Centaurus (3-1 overall) also has a piece of the top spot going into week three.  Silver Creek (5A) also dropped their league opener to Longmont but sits at 3-1 on the season.  The Raptors and Centaurus both face two high level opponents over the next six days.  The Raptors tangle with Erie on Wednesday and Mead on Friday.  Centaurus plays on the same days against Longmont and Windsor.

PIKES PEAK:  An expanded league this year that brings together most of the top 4A and 5A programs from the Colorado Springs region into one conference.  Four teams are in first.  Rampart and Doherty are 2-0 with Pine Creek and Fountain Fort Carson 1-0.  Lewis Palmer is 1-1 following a high scoring loss to Doherty last week.  Rampart takes center stage this week as they host Fountain Fort Carson on Tuesday and then visits Doherty on Saturday.  Lewis Palmer and Pine Creek also step on the same court Tuesday night.

SOUTH CENTRAL:  Pueblo South and Pueblo Central have the league with identical 2-0 records.  Central might have the slight advantage thanks to their win over Pueblo East last Friday.  South and Central break the tie when they meet on Friday.

SOUTHWESTERN:  League play doesn’t start until the week but Montrose (4-0) is favored.  The Indians are the only league member with more than two wins on the season.  They open conference play at Grand Junction on Tuesday and then host GJ Central on Saturday.

CLASS 5A

CENTENNIAL:  Cherry Creek (4-0) sits tied for first with Overland (3-0) and Eaglecrest (1-0).  All other league teams have at least two losses.  Overland challenges Cherry Creek in the first of two league meetings on Wednesday.  Eaglecrest faces a very good Smoky Hill club (1-2) on Friday.

JEFFCO:  Ralston Valley (3-0) shares the conference lead with Chatfield and Arvada West (both 2-0).  The Mustangs though have the advantage right now as they have a win over Valor Christian.  The league leaders meet twice this week and Chatfield is involved in both.  The Chargers visit Ralston Valley on Monday and then wait until Friday before lining up with Arvada West.

EAST METRO:  Rangeview is heavily favored and they won their conference opener over Brighton.  Gateway, Vista Peak and Hinkley also won conference openers so all are 1-0.  Hinkley is the biggest surprise as the T-Birds are just 1-4 overall while the other three are a combined 10-1.  Rangeview is at Hinkley this Saturday and won’t face Gateway or Vista Peak until the final week.

FRONT RANGE:  Legacy (3-0) has the most conference wins but Fairview, Boulder, Legacy, Poudre and Horizon are all 1-0.  Boulder is 2-1.  Important games begin on Monday with Fairview going to Poudre.  Poudre also visits Boulder on Wednesday.  Legacy has two more league games this week and both should be good battles; against Horizon on Wednesday and Fairview on Friday.

CONTINENTAL:  Regis, Chaparral and Mountain Vista are 2-0 with Rock Canyon already 3-0.  Those four share the lead while pre-season favorite ThunderRidge has yet to start their conference schedule.  League leaders Chaparral and Rock Canyon meet on Friday and Mountain Vista is scheduled to face ThunderRidge that same night.  Regis also meets fifth place Legend (1-1) on that busy Friday.  Chaparral also has a nice non-league game with Eaglecrest on Tuesday night.

DENVER PREP:  Quite a bit will be decided this week as three tradition rich games are on the schedule.  Denver East goes to Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday, George Washington goes to TJ on Friday and then GW and Denver East collide on Saturday.  All three clubs are unbeaten in conference play.  Lincoln (1-0) has a share of first place and will watch all three games with great interest.
