Several important boys’ basketball games were played on Tuesday and we recap the results to indicate how they affect league races across all divisions.

CLASS 1A

  • Denver Waldorf kept sole possession of the 5280 lead with their 64-41 win over Front Range Baptist.  They host second place Mile High Academy on Wednesday.

CLASS 2A

  • Fowler finishes the Santa Fe conference schedule unbeaten at 13-0 thanks to a season closing win over Swallows Charter.  The Grizzlies are the top seed for the district tournament.
  • Mancos creates a tie with Ignacio for the San Juan conference lead as they knocked off the Bobcats 69-57.  The win avenges an earlier six-point loss to Ignacio for the Bluejays.
  • Highland and Denver Christian secured the top two spots in the Mile High with wins on Tuesday.  The Huskies won the championship with their 92-77 win over Longmont Christian and the Thunder collected second by beating Dawson 78-49.

CLASS 3A

  • Coal Ridge kept a share of the Western Slope lead with Gunnison as they won at Roaring Fork 48-27.
  • Lamar gets the win over local rival La Junta and that puts the Savages fourth in the Tri Peaks which gives them a bye into the district quarterfinals.
  • Resurrection Christian finishes the Patriot league schedule without a loss as the Cougars topped Estes Park.  Resurrection Christian is the top seed for the districts with Sterling #2, Eaton #3 and University #4.

CLASS 4A

  • Silver Creek stayed alone in second place behind Longmont in the Northern with their 66-51 win over Mountain View.
  • Pueblo West moved into second place in the South Central by outscored Pueblo Central 79-68.  They remain two games back of league-leading Pueblo East who stayed unbeaten in the conference with their win over Pueblo South.
  • Montrose grabbed a share of first place in the Southwestern league as they bounce Fruita Monument.  The result leaves both teams with one league loss but Montrose must also beat Grand Junction on Friday to keep their share of the crown.  Fruita Monument has closed their conference schedule.
  • Mead has clinched the Tri Valley title but their 81-62 win over Erie moved them to 15-0 and just one win away from running the table in conference play.  Erie slides back into a second place tie with Windsor and Skyline as all three teams have four conference losses.  Skyline, which has beaten Erie twice this year, kept pace by beating Holy Family 59-45.  Windsor bumped Berthoud 81-40 to keep a share of the runner-up spot.
  • Glenwood Springs remains perfect in the Western Slope by beating Battle Mountain 54-41.  The Demons have already wrapped up the conference title.

CLASS 5A

  • Denver East grabbed the outright lead in the DPL with a convincing 85-59 win over Northfield.  Both clubs were unbeaten in league play to start the game.  East did not clinch as they must still beat George Washington on Saturday to do so.
  • Chaparral kept sole possession of the Continental lead by beating Heritage 72-41.  The Wolverines must beat Legend on Friday to win the title outright since both ThunderRidge and Mountain Vista both won on Tuesday.  The Grizzlies and Golden Eagles play on Friday to determine second place.
