It’s a busier than normal Monday night in boys’ basketball and we sort through the results to come up with top highlights involving league races.

CLASS 1A

  • Pikes Peak Christian kept a share of the Black Forest chase by beating Colorado D&B 77-56. The Eagles are now 5-0 while Edison is 4-0.  Both lead ECA by one game and the two leaders meet on February 22nd in a game postponed from last week.

CLASS 2A

  • With their 48-42 win over Crowley County on Monday, Rocky Ford caught the Chargers in the Santa Fe race.  Both clubs now have three league losses and share third place but each is two back of second place Holly.  Fowler is atop the standings without a conference loss.  Rocky Ford and Crowley County have now split two regular season matchups but the Chargers have a game with Fowler later this week.  They need an upset to avoid falling down to fourth.  Rocky Ford also tangles with Holly before the end of the season.

CLASS 3A

  • Bennett lost their share of second place in the Frontier with a 66-65 road loss to KIPP Collegiate. The Tigers fell to 4-2 and now trail first place DSST-Montview (7-0) by two games and Middle Park & Sheridan by one game.
  • A very good non-league win for top ranked Resurrection Christian as they downed 4A Wheat Ridge on the road 74-61. The Cougars are now 16-0.

CLASS 4A

  • Surprising Pueblo East continues to dominate the South Central chase. They downed Pueblo West 69-51 on Monday and now have a two-game edge on the Cyclones and Pueblo Central atop the standings.  East must face both teams again during the second run through of league action.
  • Widefield seems to have Harrison’s number. The Panthers have just two league losses but both are to Widefield including a 67-65 finale on Monday.  The result creates a three-way tie for the CS Metro lead as the Panthers, Gladiators and Classical Academy all have two losses.  Classical Academy narrowly kept pace with their 49-47 win over Mitchell.  Now the Titans face Harrison on Wednesday in another critical conference pairing.
  • Little trouble for Mead and Cheyenne Mountain holding comfortable leads in their respective division.  Cheyenne Mountain topped Palmer Ridge and stay three games up on three other clubs in the Pikes Peak.  Mead remains two games up on Erie in the Tri Valley following their nice win over Frederick.

CLASS 5A

  • Cherry Creek started the night tied with Grandview atop the Centennial and the Bruins stay there thanks to a 81-66 win over Mullen. They improved to 9-1 and they and the Wolves have a two-game edge on Smoky Hill (7-3) for third.  The Buffs topped Overland 69-58 on Monday.
  • Valor Christian rolled past Bear Creek 82-52 to stay one game back of unbeaten Dakota Ridge (4-0) in the Jeffco. The Eagles share the runner-up spot with Columbine, Arvada West and Ralston Valley.  Valor Christian and Dakota Ridge collide on Wednesday.
